I've had a Z1 Compact since March and the battery life has been very good, I can get 2 days between charges and I use it a fair bit.

I charged the phone on Saturday, used it less than normal as I was busy and it needed charging again on Sunday, charged it up and I had to charge it again at lunch time on Monday.

I looked at the battery useage and Media was taking around 50%.

I've tried various fixes for stopping the service running but they stop customized ringtones and alerts. I eventually found a forum post saying that it could be a corrupt media file that is causing the media service to continue scanning it.

I've formatted the SD card and recovered the media from a back up created beofre Saturday and hey presto, problem sorted. Media now runs at startup for a few seconds then closes and battery life is back to normal.

Looks like this problem is indeed caused by corrupt images. Just got to get my mate to sending me hundreds of pictures via whatsapp everyday.

The media server application indexes all your media on the phone.

Its common that if you transfer media files to your phone that the power consumption of the media server will go up but only for a short period of time. This is necessary, otherwise app's won't be able to find your newly imported media.

But in your case, since you seem to be having troubles with the media server app constantly consuming battery. I think that you may have a/or several corrupt media files in the phone or on your SD card. Causing the media server app to constantly trying to index files.

Just to do a quick test, try to copy all your important media and other files to your computer then delete them from your phone or do a format on your storage memories and check if you still experience this.

If you don't, the problem is as I suspected a broken or corrupt media file. The hard part is to figure out which one.

Even its showing 18-20% consumption in my phone n next to screen usage so i guess its pretty high .. this thing should be addressecd to the developers i think we can get alot better battery backup if the medica server consumption is less

As far as I remember, that annoying process is there since the very first time I got my device. And it's always been this high. I don't have an SD card, I have just some mp3 and pictures I've transferred... This process is malfunctioning. The media that I have is the very same I had in my Motorola Razr i, in which this stupid indexer never showed up in battery consumption records.

Just saying this as a reinforcement for my request to be passed to the developers working on the 4.3, and 4.4 updates. Please.

I'll try what you suggested. But I know even if I delete all my media this problem will persist. Let's see.

Please tell me you'll pass this to the developers add I'm not the only one facing this problem, or, are the other hundreds having problematic media too? This problem is such a shame for Sony.

Thank you for you help. I'll get back with the results.

- L

may be the software developers at sony are unable to write bug free code..even for every time they develop new os update..always some bugs are there..and the quality of service is worst..at sony service centre(chaitanya electronics,pimpri-chinchwad) the people arent helping customers. they are unable to answer the queries of customer..dont buy any sony products

I had problem with my xperia z.

It was overheating and battery was draining very quickly. It'd only last for a few hour (2-3hours) even if the phone was idle.

I checked and found out that the mediaserver was taking up alot of battery.

I upgraded the firmware with sony companion software. It also upgraded the OS to 4.4.2

Since then the overheating problem is resolved. The battery also doesn't drain fast

I hope this was helpful

Media server is on.top of battery draining processes, with 75% battery drain, and screen is next to it, with only 6%

The keep awake time is 3h 10 min
Kindly enlighten about this problem and the solution
