My definition of a portable device is that it is portable. Means, there should be moments when it should not be plugged for charge.

Can someone explain to me how we can reach the countless hundreds of hours of battery life in standby-mode, and the tens of hours in speaking mode, indicated as reference. I do not want to make the various provided apps non-chatty one by one. Is there a way to shutdown all (but the phone and the bluetooth for example: I do not care about data/wifi most of the time, but I need to have a phone that I should not re-charge permanently).

For information: When I follow all the guidelines provided in the user doc or forum to save battery life, it does not go beyond 2days - far from what is expected.

Regards,

Bruno

"...but I need to have a phone that I should not re-charge permanently." - What exactly do you mean by that? Manufacturers test their phones under very strict conditions to make the phones perform their best, just like the mileage of motorcycles are tested by their manufacturers under strict conditions. No motorcycle has ever given its rider a mileage as advertised. If you are worried that your phone specifically might be performing lower than the other phones of the same model, then you don't have to, because 2 days of battery usage with a single recharge, for a smartphone, is really a fair performance. But if you are a person on constant travel or something like that, you may carry a commercially available Power bank with you. If you feel it's just your phone that is performing low, you may try repairing your phone once using Sony Update Service.

I understand that they are strict test conditions. But to keep the comparison with the motorcycle, I have never seen that manufacturers promisses for 1000 kms mileage, but that we end up with only 100 kms. In that sector, it is more about 20%exageration.

I really would like to see what are the strict test conditions for the phone, to see if the standby mode/speak mode can last what they claim - I would be satisfied already with 50%

Currently, with wifi out and data/3g out, I got about 40 hours between 2 charges, for around 30 minutes of talk and 1 hour of bluetooth (car free-hand set).

Bruno

Switch to 2G network only. High speed networks consumes more power. Also operators power budgets variates. Old SIM-cards consumes more battery than the newest ones.

I you want longest standby/talk times, get the most basic phone terminal ~20,- price range.

Uninstall those apps you don't need especially social networking apps, booster and task killers even antivirus if you don't need it. My standby time(as shown in battery management) is 4 days 20 hours. But I never used my phone to that point 'cause its not good for li-ion batteries. if your requirement is only calling and using Bluetooth then consider buying a s40 device with big battery. Don't expect much battery life from android.

I had such a phone used for phoning. Strange for me - almost unbearable - to admit that in end of 2013 I will need to travel with 2 devices : one for surfing, and one for phoning. (Or a single one, with an extra battery pack). Isn't "phone" part of the name "smartphone" ?

If the manufacturer indicates that the battery life can be "up to x-hours", we should get access to the how-to-do-it. A big plus would be to have a button that allows to be in "phone-only" conditions allowing the extended duration of the battery.

Regards,

Bruno

Well, you can actually,by stopping apps that run in the background.Go to Settings->Apps->Running Apps.Stop whatever apps that you think not necessary. That should save more power.By doing this,I can get around 3 days straight without any wifi or mobile data just used to received and make calls with brightness at 25% and location based wifi off.(Only Stamina Mode is on).

Yea i heard that Samsung's upcoming flagship Galaxy S5 will equipped with 2k resolution and Samsung also aimed for 4k resolution smartphones in the end of 2014 or 2015.

If this happen it would need a 5000mAh battery for it just to run for two days.

Somehow, there would be a major increase in commercial powerbanks storing 10000mAh and above.

So,we might also see a powerbank made specially from Samsung to its S5
