Hi, same problem meaning? Can't boot up phone with power button? If this is the case, it could be a hardware issue.

You may consider sending phone to service centre for repair.

I think Polky means the problem where the phone is in sleep mode and pressing the power button to wake it yields no result. You have to press it multiple times to make the screen display work, (note the backlight is unaffected and still comes on, just nothing is displayed and you have a grey/black screen).

most of the users have this issue(including me). i hope sony will fix this issue in 4.3 update.

Yes you are correct. Sorry I wasn't very clear in my post.

After performing a recent software update I now, on occasions but not every time, have to press the power button twice or three times to activate the screen. I've had the phone for three months and have not had this problem prior to updating software.

Am also getting the same problem, in first unlock- the grey display appears, in second unlock the display get works,

How the people got similar hardware problems, i think the problem has came with software side,

Just add a another count for this issue, also this issue has been complainted in another forum too, so count that person too

Suggest turning off the auto brightness to see if that helps. Also make sure you reinstall software before doing it.

I know the cause of this issue.Based on my observation it only happens when these three things happened(and ways to overcome):
1)The phone is overheating.(Let it cool first,before pressing the power button)
2)The user is using multiple apps and exchange from an app to another app too fast.(Settle down by going to homescreen and wait for a while,before pressing the power button)
3)The user pressed the power button too frequent in a short time.(Press only a few times,if possible )

But those steps does not guarantee that it will never happen again.

Maybe for your phone, but mine will also do this when it has been sat idle and you try to wake it up, as well as when you have been using it recently. It will also do this regardless of whether auto-brightness, mobile network or wi-fi are enabled or disabled.

Same problem here.
Happens even after a call ended.
And sometimes while receiving a call?

Are there any official words about it from Sony?
Any workaround known?

I have same problem which I haven,t noticed on the previous releases but using 254 and have the grey backlit screen but 2 or 3 presses restores things. Hopefully this wilk be fixed in 4.2 or 4.3 or whatever is the next release. Other than that and the annoyingly bad sony idea NON REMOVABLE BATTERY its a great phone.

Xperia SP comes with a non removable battery.So turning off in this condition is not possible by removing battery.The volume up+power button doesnt work in Xperia SP unlike other phones.The solution is given below.

Remove the back cover of Xperia SP and look for a small yellow dot on mid bottom with “OFF” written below it. Check the image below.

Now “Press & Hold Down the OFF Button, using a tip of pen or any other pointed object for around 10 seconds”. Phones vibrates and will be switched off automatically. Check image below.

P.S. Don’t use very sharp objects as it may damage the OFF Button.

Now phone restarts.

After restarting we found that our Xperia SP got back to normal temperature and everything was fine. We were able to charge our Xperia SP again, device was cool.

I also faced the same issue and got solved with the solution given in above link.Hope it will work for you also
