The TV does not need an internet connection but to use DLNA the phone and TV needs to be connected to the same (wireless) network. I recommend that you check the specifications for your TVs to see if they support DLNA and/or Screen Mirroring (Miracast).

If the TVs doesn't support this you can also connect the phone using a HDMI (you need to buy an MHL-adapter for that).

hey there, I'm new as well! :D. I have a BRAVIA ex700, connected to my home network via etherNet cable, my Z1 recognised it, but I can only display photos and music.
how did u connect it to your TV? I turned on media-server from settings > xperia connectivity.
my PS3 however, can play all media located on my Z1, but I can't delete or modify, I can only play and copy from Z1 to PS3.

It depends on which Bravia TV you have and what you want to do.

As sony-junkie-26 says, some Bravia TVs only supports picture and music but not video over DLNA. Not all models supports Screen Mirroring etc.

Thanks for the response. Does the TV have to be connected to the internet to be compatable with the phone?

I haven't got a Z1, yet. Not sure whether to get S4 or Z1. If I'll be able to connect to both my Bravia's then that's another plus for the Z1

I have my Z1 connected to my HX853 with no problems apart from no screen mirroring (not a feature fo the TV sadly)

For the record video playback (via THROW) is excellent
