I am experiencing this same problem, but I have the older firmware (14.1.G.1.534)

I found that if I leave it alone for awhile (ex. after sleep), the next time it vibrates, the sound would not be there.

Also from the built-in diagnostic, no squeak/buzz sound was observed with constant vibration.

It tends to happen when I press things that leads to frequent vibration (ex. pressing the home button many times)

Only had the Z1 for a little more than 2 weeks, not looking forward to return it, any suggestions from Sony?

Hi guys,

I dont understand this phone anymore..now i have a zooming/buzzing sound like a bee when i type..what is this? And if someone calls it makes a noise like a rattle snake because of the vibrating...really weird...U guys also have this? Can someone test this please and reply if u have the same or not?

On XDA developers people claiming its an hardware issue, while others say its from the new update .257.

Especially in the left corner of the phone if u put your ears to it and type something.

Do i need to replace again? Really boring it....

I think it's a hardware problem coz i can hardly feel the vibration when I'm typing, but the voice when i make a call is causing the phone vibrate a bit though.

And one thing to add,

No. I have not expose the phone to water (ie. did not indulge in water).

The only contact made with water is when I used a moist cloth to clean the screen.
