I am sat not 10 feet from the router. The mac address only appears when (if) the tablet has wifi enabled. As I write this, I have a connection, but it drops every 2-3 mins.

This model SGP 311GB/B keeps dropping the wifi connection. I have re-installed all software, but to no avail. Does anybody know how to fix this please?

Thanks

After looking in the settings, I notice that there is no mac address.

You mention that there is no mac address. Is this looking at the tablet or in the router settings?

You should be able to see the Wi-Fi mac address in the tablet if Wi-Fi is enabled.

What range are we talking about? What's your distance to the router? Are there many other networks in the area running on the same channel? Use Wi-Fi analyzer to check.

Do you have any other radio equipment near by? Or do you have Bluetooth enabled as well?

Sometimes wireless speakers, baby monitors or other equipment running on the same frequency (2,4Ghz) can cause drop out issues.

If your router supports 5Ghz, you could try enabling that.

The only other kit nearby is my iPhone 3GS. That has no problems connecting. Neither does the laptop upstairs. If I switch to 5Ghz, how will that affect those?

I don't know if those two supports 5Ghz. But did you run Wi-Fi analyzer to check networks nearby? This is mentioned in the FAQ topic you read.

Running this app you can see networks near by and which channel they run on so you can figure out which channel that would be best for you. You should use a channel as far away from other networks as possible.
