Do you require all emails from your account to be downloaded on to the handset?

2. Have you noticed how many emails you usually have in the inbox when this begins to run slowly?

3. What software version are you currently running on the handset? This can be found by going into the Settings and select About Phone.

Hopefully we will be able to resolve this for you.

I have big problems with the default e-mail app on X10. It keeps loading every e-mail that I ever received, one by one, meaning that the app is slower and slower as time passes. At ~500 e-mails, it is not usable any more. It is veeery slow, it does not manage to download new e-mails, etc.

The only solution I have found is to delete the entire e-mail account when it gets too slow. Once I have gone through all the steps of adding my account from scratch, e-mails download without problem. That is, for a few weeks, until I need to delete the account again...

Of course, I found a great e-mail app on the Market. But of course, TimeScape only loads e-mails from the default app......

Is this really the method that SE expects us to use in order to read our e-mail on X10 (and integration with TimeScape)?

Is everyone else having the same problem?

Is the e-mail app default Android, or is it specific to SE?

Thanks, it would be very nice if this could be solved.

1. Not sure I understand the question. Personally, I don't need all old e-mails available on the phone. It could be nice to set the phone to show the 25/50/100/200 latest messages. Perhaps with a button to download older messages, if necessary. Or perhaps e-mails could be archived in monthly catalogues?

2. The email app gets progressively slower. Everything is fine with 100 messages. 200 messages is a bit slower. 300 messages is slower. 400 messages is annoying. 500 messages is unbearable.
3.

Hi,

Thanks for your response. As there is no setting within the standard email application on the handset to change how many emails are downloaded, we can only suggest deleting the emails you no longer require from your account on a PC or moving these to a different folder in your account.

The handset will only bring down any emails which are available on the inbox server. If there is a large amount of emails downloading to the handset on a regular basis, this would begin to slow the application down.

We hope this helps.

My inbox server contains ~200 e-mails from Sept 16th to today. The handset app is now too full/slow to be able to download the more recent e-mails. I'm not planning to delete 550 messages one by one on the phone.

Please let me know if there's anything I can test to help solve this problem.

Hi,

Thank you for your response.

In the email application, the inbox will show how many emails are unread, however when selecting 'Inbox', this should only load 50 messages. The handset will not load any more messages unless the option for 'Load more messages' is selected at the bottom of the list.

When testing this for you, we used an email account which held 1790 unread messages. We did not experience the e-mail application slowing at any point.

So we may try and look into this further for you, please could you confirm whether you are loading the messages using a 3G connection or Wi-Fi? In the mean time, I would recommend removing the email account from the handset and setting this up again which will remove all of the older messages which have been downloaded directly to the handset.

When I select inbox, I am able to scroll through more than 500 messages from dates long ago. After many retries and a lot of waiting, I managed to download the last 50 messages from my inbox server. However, old e-mails are never removed from the app. I can still see them in the list, and read them. This is without touching "load more messages".

As written in the first message... "The only solution I have found is to delete the entire e-mail account when it gets too slow. Once I have gone through all the steps of adding my account from scratch, e-mails download without problem. That is, for a few weeks, until I need to delete the account again..."

I have been using three different e-mail accounts. I have deleted all of them two times to re-gain functionality. The problem is not solved. The e-mail accounts are from different ISPs. All are POP3.

E-mails are downloaded on a fast wifi connection.
