Screen input without touching

I'm sorry about the very vague subject but that is pretty much the best short way I can try to describe what's happening. I have had the phone for a couple weeks, number 2 after the first one wouldn't turn on at all even after a reset attempt.

To put it in a more long winded way, it's like inputting lots of commands onto a computer, waiting for something to happen, then everything happens at once. However, with this, I am not even touching the screen and it is happening; taking me onto various apps and such that I don't really want to go on. I have taken off the screen protector, thinking that something was underneath and pressing the screen, yet it has still continued.

I haven't seen anything about this before, so is this a very rare occurrence or have I got to get a third phone.
