Anyone know how to backup my contacts on my W395? PC Suite 6 doesn't want to know and I can't seem to be able to access the file on the memory card so I can copy it to my pc.

The phone is showing signs of age - intermittently cutting out etc so I wanted to take the precaution of saving the contacts and possibly transferring them to a new phone in due course.

Any ideas?

Unfortunately, the W395 isn't compatible with PC suite and you cannot save contacts to the memory card nor retrieve them from the memory card. You could back them up by Bluetoothing them to the PC, by saving them to the SIM card or even by manually entering them into a folder in the phone memory or memory card and saving the folder on the PC by file transfer.

The Bluetooth fails every time. there is only room on the sim for 80 contacts and I have 200 on the phone's memory card. Copying manually? Life's too short for that..

Why can't my PC see a 'contacts' folder? Surely someone out there has a utility that can do this as Sony seem to have ignored this aspect.

Shan't be buying another one that's for sure.

With regards to the Bluetooth connection, have you tried establishing a connection from the PC in File transfer mode, rather than from the phone? Or perhaps using an alternatine BT connection service, such as the Serial port service, if this is allowed between the PC and the phone.

One way of doing this, is to use a plain text document on the PC (.txt) into which you can list the contacts, and then transfer this document to the W395 by mass storage transfer (copy/paste or drag/drop).

You then need to go to Getjar.com on your PC where you can download a Text reader application (free), transfer and install it in the W395 (again by mass storage transfer), which will enable you to open and read this text document.

Thanks for a very quick reply. Rather than mess about, I borrowed a bluetooth phone, transferred contacts to it and got it all sorted using a decent phone with a proper pc suite.

It's a shame that SE made such a botch of this W395 phone as regards usability with a pc because it is a very good phone in other respects.
