As far as I know there is no timeout. I have woken up in the morning to see the notifications light flashing. Dont know how long it was there tho. I expect if there was a timeout there would ve been a choice of timeout length too.

However the flashing is every 5 seconds so really u got to be looking at the phone for 5 secs to be sure you dont have a pending notification While charging the notification overrides the charging indication which is great.. If you set different colors for different alerts you get the latest one only flashing. So if i get a missed casll n then a wotsapp msg i get only the wotapp notification on the light.

If you have stamina mode enabled you will not get the notifications tho.

I recently returned an HTC Desire X because the notification light for missed SMS only flashes for 5 minutes.

Can someone please confirm the notification LED on the Xperia M flashes indefinitely until the SMS is read?

Thanks.

It doesn't have a timeot when you download the app called ILLUMINATION BAR NOTIFICATION and set the notification timeout to never. You can also set how often (like 2 secs or 0.05 secs) the LED bar will flash when you receive a message or anything else. I use the app on my Xperia miro and it's really great!

I hope this was helpful. :smileysmileythumbsup:

Thanks, that's helpful. The default flash interval of 5 seconds is quite high, but I'm glad that can be changed with an app. Unfortunately with the Desire X I could not find an app to extend the 5 minute timeout, and Light Flow would have been required as well as rooting the phone.

It should be. It was made for the xperias which have the bar like the U, and I guess the notification lights are rigged the same way in the U under the transparent panel, as they are in the M. So no reason for it not to work. Dont you return the M please. Its a good fone with minimal drawbacks compared to others and for the price, its a wonder.

Definitely hope this is the right phone for me, Amazon would probably get upset if I return a second phone anyway

I don't understand why notification LEDs are a dying breed, at least Sony understand it has a place. iPhones don't have one, HTC times it out after 5 minutes, and Samsung only put them in their top-end phones.

Nexus 4 has one but they are always out of stock, and by default I heard it blinks every 10 seconds, Sony's 5 seconds is slow enough!

True Rezka. Its quite surprising how companies fail to understand basic requirements of users in spite of their research. A notification light is a basic basic necessity and I would rather they allow users the inbuilt ability to keep it as a blinking or constant light and also allow us to change the interval.

Btw the charging indicator makes absolutely no sense to me really, ......when my phone is kept for charging i know its kept for charging, dont need an indicator for that. It should be a charging complete indicator coming on only when fully charged, instead we get a constant charging indicator for no rhyme or reason

I see a purpose for the charging light. Sometimes I plug the phone in to a charging cable and the other end isn't in the wall, or the wall socket is switched off!

This could be done with a one-time "charging" message on the screen though.

I also agree with adding the option to alter the interval. For those of us (like me!) who aren't tethered to their mobiles, the ability to pause briefly whilst walking past the phone to see if the light is flashing is what I want. By having a long blink rate, I will have to pause longer to see if anything is waiting for me.

And people will say "just wake the screen up", but I prefer the phone to tell me I have something waiting without having to ask it
