Buzzing when making calls

When making calls on my xperia z1 there is a buzzing sound when making calls that is reminiscent of data downloading on an old dial up Internet connection. I believe I have the optimal settings for calls checked. Is there anything else I can do as it makes the phone almost unusable and I am unable to exchange the unit. I am on the latest updates and on 4G with Vodafone in the UK. I hope someone can help?

Mine sounds as if the I have a poor connection. Like the sound of surf in the background.

It would be nice if Sony could let us know if this is a known issue, if there is something we can do with the settings or whether they know of any other kind of fix!

I noticed that this buzzing gets really worse when the signal strength drops to 2G in certain areas even though my plan is on 3G. I'm with a Singapore telco carrier and I was thinking that a 4G plan won't be having this problem but having read your post, it looks like its getting to be a problem..

I have contacted sony on Facebook and they have told me to take my phone to a Sony centre. I'm assuming that this is a hardware issue? It's a pity there was no official response on here!
