I have this unique problem with my xperia z which I bought a month ago in India.

My following issue happens at times and it doesn't follow any cycle.

My Airtel network signal shows full strength but when some one calls me they get network tone "Number not reachable or out of coverage area". When I try calling during this blackout, no calls or messags would go through my mobile. I can use all the apps during this time. A hard restart would solve my problem when i face this. However the issue is I won't know when my phone is going in to this state, Unless some one say to me personally or call on my other mobile to inform that my number is not reachable.

This happened atleast 5 to 6 times in the last one month.

Someone please help. I cannot take this to service center as its not a permanent issue.

PS: I have disabled STAMINA mode on day 2 itself as I observed that network signals are lost when my phone is going to STAMINA mode.

I am falmiliar with that issue. I was also facing same issue that if someone is calling me in first time they were able to call me but if they tried to to call me again after few mins phone is out of coverage area though signal is full. I am using vodafone so what I did I went to vodafone gallary and explain this problem to them with demonstration so they provide me a new sim and after that I am not facing this problem anymore ... you can also try this if same problem arrise then insert any other network sim card and check the same ...

Given that there is more than one of you with the same intermittent issue and you are both with the same network, I would advise speaking with the network provider in question regarding this before doing anything to the phone.

Hello Sam -

 I have already checked with the network provider and also tried the same SIM in a different phone for a day or two and it works seamlessly without any issues. When i tried it again in my Xperia Z i go the same issue again. Donno if its related to the firmware update or the STamina mode. I also tried running it without the stamina mode but again sadly the same issue persists. As soon as i restart the phone all works well and the again you never know when my cell becomes unreachable.

 Any sugestions/fixes???

That is odd; however it would be worth reloading the firmware incase something went wrong when applying the update:

1. Download the PC Companion software from http://www.sonymobile.com/gb/tools/pc-companion/
and install it on your PC.
2. Install and open PC Companion then select Support Zone.
3. Phone Software Update.
4. Start.
5. Repair Phone
6. Continue
7. Accept data removal
8. Next
9. Wait for prepare
10. Select Phone
11. Follow the connection steps

It happened to my ZR as well when Airtel Network in Pune used to go off as soon as the phone was started. I did everything to resolve this starting from Re-Install the firmware, Hard Factory reset, Submitting the phone to Customer Care center but all went in vain. Even I bough a new Micro SIM to see if the Cut Sim is causing the issue, but that too didn't help. Just like you, funnily, my SIM was working fine with other Phones and vice cersa. So, I finally chose to use another operator SIM card by porting in so that I can keep the number, and it has been working fine so far. I suggest you switch to other operator if you want to keep the number. But, remember before switching test the network, buy a new sim card from the new operator and test the network connectivity, whether it is working fine or not.

Another entry in the thread. I am from Hyderabad and having the same problem. Coincidence is that I am also using Airtel. But the same SIM worked without any problem with Samsung gs3. When I bought new Sony Xperia Z, problems started. I think Sony should take this issue seriously as this is a big problem.

Contacted support and they replaced the set. Still having the same problem.

Everything works fine except the phone which makes the handset almost unusable.

I think, I found something here.... When I reach office, I will go to cellar parking which is in -2nd floor, where there is no signal and I see the grayed cellular signal with red cross mark on mobile. After coming to ground floor, I will for sure get the full signal strength, but, my mobile goes to unreachable mode. The only way to bring connectivity is to restart the phone. I guess, this could be of some help for Sony people to look into this issue.

I tried few times today and confirmed that the above steps work perfectly to reproduce the problems we all are facing here.

Hi All,

I found the solution to the problem finally. I did it on my phone and having no problems from around one week. Getting all incoming calls without any problem and could do calls as well.

Here are the steps:

* Goto Settings

* Go to More...

* Goto Mobile networks

* Goto Network operators

Let the phone search for all available operators. This will take a bit of time.

For Airtel customers:

There will be two entries with Airtel - Airtel 2G and Airtel 3G

Touch both of them. You will get a message that the mobile is registered. Make sure to register with both 2G and 3G networks.

Go back and enjoy the phone.

The same thing can be applied for Vodafone also, but I have not checked it.

Hai
I faced a similar problem in my xperia z (c6602) mobile. I was unable to get calls to my mobile when my mobile data traffic is enabled and as soon as i disabled it i can receive the call. I think it is due to the kitkat update (4.4.2) As problem came after the update. Will it be degraded?

Hi, how did you manage to register with both 2G and 3G networks at the same time? I'm having this issue while trying to use Vodafone 3G in bangalore. When I register with 3G network with WCDMA preferred mode, the network signal keeps dropping off intermittently. Could this happen because of an old SIM card?

Hi @Singh2

First I suggest doing a backup of your device information: How to backup?

Then try to repair your device using PC Companion.

I hope can be useful.

Best Regards,
