Sim Card Contacts

Hello folks, I was wondering how do I access my SIM card contacts with the phone book?

I do not want to import my SIM card contacts to my phone as I want to keep my contacts transferrable by keeping it on the SIM card.

Unfortunately it's not possible to manage the SIM card contacts as standard. You can only select to backup to the SIM card and import from SIM card.

I suggest that you search Google Play to see if you can find any 3rd party application that can manage the SIM card contacts.

Hi Alexandar, thanks for the quick reply. Do you know why this is so?

I was using a HTC android phone and it supported SIM-only views; so did another Samsung android phone that I was using.

Now, I have to do an Import from my SIM to the phone internal memory before I can use it. And the funniest thing is that when I try to import from my SIM card, the Sony phone can *suddenly* display all my contacts (but blocked with only an "Import" selection.

Will Sony put back this feature in a firmware update, because this is a default feature of the Android mobile OS.

I think, that is not "default feature of Android" :smileysmileywink: And definitely not of Android 4.1 and above, unfortunately...

Well, thats just a serious bummer. I save my contacts to my SIM card and i cant access it unless i do an import of the contacts to my local phone.

Sometimes i add only 1 new contact and i end up having to waste time doing a full import from SIM to local contacts.

I don't think importing them would remove the contacts from your sim card, import them then in your contacts select all of them and then export them as files in a .vfc format and save it into your computer, that way you can transfer your contacts to any phone even if your sim-card fails you.

I don't want to remove them from the SIM card - I want to be able to keep my SIM card contacts upgraded.

That way, when my phone dies, I can simply remove my SIM card and put it into my new phone and have it working right away.

I don't see why it is difficult to do this in terms of software and firmware coding - the very first mobile phones were indeed accessing phonebook contacts via the SIM card only.

And my previous HTC Android phone had the option to toggle between SIM card contacts vs. phone memory contacts.

I don't understand why Sony must force users to import their SIM contacts into their phone memory before they will allow users to access the contacts.

Obviously when doing an import of the SIM contacts, you can see your contacts on the SIM card, so this obviously has something to do with Sony wanting to block this feature deliberately...

how i understand: simple ways to see sim contacts is absent?

does one known some programs for that?

As CarbonaTom Saud importing does not delete the numbers in your Sim just only makes them visible on your device but they remain on your SIM in case you put it in another device, your contacts will still be there.

This is not a fault, it is how the phone is designed to work.

If you like to have your SIM card up to date I suggest that you open contacts > menu button > export > export to SIM > replace contacts.

But my recommendation is to have the contacts synced to a service like for example Google, so you have your contacts available even if your phone is lost.
