Waterproofing flap from USB port lost, need to replace it.

Hi, the waterproof flap which covers the USB port on my Xperia Z1 has been lost. It must've been slightly loose and came off altogether when putting it into or taken it out of my pocket. I've searched everywhere and can't find it. I need to somehow get a new one as this has spoiled the looks and waterproof protection of my brand new phone. I am very happy with the phone, but this has really put the damper on it. Is there somewhere I can buy a few replacement caps to have just in case this happens again, and are these capable of self installing?

pretty much got the same issue, and got no where with sony really, apart from being told to send the phone away you might get charged and all your memory,contacts and what not would also be lost. great thanks for that sony

You can back up everything so you wont lose your sms, mms, contacts, pictures, etc, I don't know why they will delete everything as they have to replace the housing or just the flap

Yeah Ma, you're right. I contacted Sony support, they said I'll have to send the phone off to be repaired. This is absolutely ridiculous, so now I'm left with the chore of sending away my phone for a week everytime these stupid caps fall off, or the alternative, lose the waterproof ability and have the eye sore of no cap on that side. If these caps fall off so easily, the phone should come with a few extra caps and an easy way to self install.
Terrible design flaw by Sony, I don't think I'd recommend this phone after this to be honest.

Quick suggestion, use the Dock or just get the cable to charge the phone w/o having to open the cover/flaps all the time, think about it, in the long run it will wear off

I have the same issue! The flap came off within 23 days of me owning the phone. My handset is faulty anyway it turns out with a screen that keeps cutting out but I can't send my phone in for repair etc as the missing flap voids all my warranty!!!! I asked if they could just send out a replacement flap and I was told that it needs a sony qualified engineer to fit it even though it is just a rubber cord that needs poking into a hole. The whole incident is rediculous and has put me off sony for good! DO NOT BUY THIS PHONE! more trouble than its worth... You don't get these issues with a Galaxy S4! or samsung in general with my experience... regarding replacement parts, do they look exactly like the sony version? If so then I can just get a replacement and send in my phone but if not it will defo void all warranty... £400+ down the drain! thanks sony!

just like the man saying that advice a website sell these flaps for Z1, i bought a set and replace by myself quickly and easily. So i took $14 to be a engineer!!! LOL~

I was told I would have to send my phone to Chennai( 2 hrs away) and wait 7 days for estimation. They would erase everything on my phone. Then if I agreed to pay they would give me a standby set and I would have to wait further 45 DAYS for them to put a piece of rubber through a hole.

I have bought a Sony Z1 on 21/02/2015 at around 9 pm from a Store known as Lot mobiles which is located at Banjara Hills, Road no-12,Hyderabad.

and after reaching home i tried to charge my mobile and the USB flap must've been slightly loose and came off altogether and on the next day when i went to the store to replace my mobile as it was not even 24 hours from the purchase time, the store just said that it was totally the Companies mistake and you must go to the authorised sony service center and they will replace your mobile or Atleast bring the DEO letter from the service center and I will Personally replace Your mobile if the service center cant replace it. when I reached Sony service center the manager was so rude and answered that it was not his issue to replace even it was less than a 24 hour replacement. And after that I even Asked him give me the DEO letter so that the mobile store can replace it and he said he will not give any DEO letter and said to go to the store and request them they will replace it.After hearing to his reply i even asked him to atleast place a new flap and I am ready to pay the money that costs for the repair, the answer he gave was that Sony Z1 is a non repairable piece it will only replaced with a new one and i have to pay 80% of the mobile price to get a new one.

This Sony service center is

I just want to know that how can Sony be so irresponsible when there are a high issues regarding the flaps.

Cant they repalce a new mobile within 24 hours of time when the mobile has a manufacturing defect.

Please look into the matter I mentioned regarding the Sony Service Center, and also please let me know the procedure to replace my mobile through Sony service Center.

Please help me so that I can Replace my mobile and get a new one as I am not feeling satisfied as a Brand new mobile has been sent for a repair within 12 hours from the purchase time.......

hi ranjeet even i had faced same but it was on accidental damage warranty so they replaced a new phone but it happened again after warranty , when i called cutomer care they told they will replace the phone we need to give 80% of the phone for the single flap then i found a beter option just for 400 rs i got a same quality usb flap from china, you can order through ali express site

This is hilarios. As soon as I bought this phone I knew that rubber cord flap wouldn't last. Lo and behold it lasted about two weeks. I only bought the phone for its 'waterproof functionality', and the possibility of taking underwater photos. The first opportunity I had to take underwater photos, off the coast in Thailand, the phone is defunct with the USB port exposed. Can't find a stockist to replace it (I live in Vietnam). Thought I was buying a high end product, turns out its just plastic rubbish. Is Apple really the only company out there that takes pride in its craftmanship?

Hello !! I have a question about the flap and information related to the leakage of the phone. How do I recover after removing the charger ??? I mean when the flap of the information will leak charge.I clicked NO MORE ABOUT THIS RECALL, and now I do not know if the phone is tight or not because I am also falls flap.

The charging port cover on my Z1 broke so I got a replacement kit off ebay. The cover wouldn't stay closed, it was as if the seal or the lanyard was pushing the cover open. I eventually gave in and sent the phone (after doing a backup) to the Australian offical Sony repairer. After getting it back the cover they fitted was only marginally better than the ebay one. Even though they performed a water seal test, the cover is continually on the verge of opening or is actually open. Even if I push it closed really hard it immediately works its way open.

Has anyone found a non genuine cover that actually remains closed in a perfectly flush position like the original covers do and doesn't continually try and open?
