http://www.sonymobile.com/gb/products/phones/xperia-active/

A tough Android smartphone

Rough conditions? Howling winds and horizontal rain? Just get out there. The Sony Ericsson Xperia active Android smartphone is dust proof and water resistant. The display even lets you scroll when your fingers are wet. Xperia active – built for an active life.

I haven't seen anything about "Shock proof", but I hardly doubt that it was advertised as Shock PROOF, perhaps it was advertised as "Shock RESISTANT" which is not the same, as proof, its not unbreakable.

If I remember correctly Xperia Active is IP67 certified

So

Totally protected against dust
Protected against the effect of immersion between 15cm and 1m

Most likely phone drops from hands or user makes a big pressure on touch screen. In this cases issue is an accidental damage and not covered by standard warranty

Anyway you should check issue directly with sony
