I have purchased a second hand Xperia Acro in Japan and would like to use the unit here in the Philippines, please advise if there is a procedure to unlock the phone.

You have two options

1) contact the original network/carrier and they might give you the code

2) you can pay a website to do so, unlockforcheap.com it's a good option
