umm try this ... press and hold the power button + the volume up at the same time untill the phone vibrates.. try this with the charger connected and disconnected .. Also try to charge phone with wall charger atleast for an hour after you tried this..

If this work then well and good if not then you have to repair your phone using

SUS

http://www.sonymobile.com/gb/tools/update-service/

Or with PC Companion (PCC)

http://www.sonymobile.com/gb/tools/pc-companion/

Please keep in mind to backup your phone data if possible

Hi all sony xperia z owners, I have the best option how to give yourphone the power it needs to turn on and start charging like it's never had an issue... My phone was completely drained from watching a video and letting it power off, I searched google/youtube and never seen this option anywhere. Right all I did was simply buy a Sony xperia z charging dock, Mine cost £11.99 form ebay, Once you have a charging dock/station use the charging your phone came with or another high powered charger plug it into the docking station form the mains and instantly it will show the red light then it will charge. I would wait 1to 2 hours till 100% charged... Mine is charging as I write this... This is very normal for most smartphone's to drain it self powerless, but sony must of known this would happen so they give us a secound option of charging... I'm very happy now it's all been sorted, Any other problems let me know, Ashley.

Currently having to deal with the same issue, while I luckily had already bought a charging dock (and joy of joys that worked) I have the horrible feeling that the charging port is physically dead. Starting to worry that this might be a hardware issue. Anyone found if the pc companion has a fix? Hoping that the recent update might be to blame, can't live without my phone haha, rather not have to send it for repair.

@Sam

Thank you for your response. I have since done some further research into the matter and the general consensus seems to be that this issue arises due to the fact that the charging port on the Xperia Z is rectangular, as opposed to the (presumed) standard "D" shape, and that the connection then has too much scope to wiggle around, eventually wearing out the connection between the charging pins and the phones internal charging apparatus. I would say that this is a design flaw and a pretty severe one at that, I've seen forums similar to this teeming with users with the same issue.

On that note, is there any kind of guarantee that this will be fixed under any kind of warranty or insurance? Obviously it depends on individual users' policies but the majority of users I've seen who have raised this fault have been informed (incorrectly, I believe) that this is a "Beyond Economic Repair" (BER) situation.

Why incorrectly? While researching I came across several websites offering to perform a simple swap of the USB connector apparatus, for a small fee of course, but infinitely cheaper than the cost of paying for an entirely new / refurbished device. If it were truly BER how are these small electronics companies managing to perform the fix for <£30, yet Sony, a multinational, multibillion dollar company either refuses or simply can't be bothered? The more I look at it the more it seems that Sony don't want to admit that it was a design flaw (style over functionality in keeping with the rest of the devices blocky and rectangular form factor) and are passing it off as uneconomical to save face?

I'm aware that this is primarily a support forum and that this has turned into somewhat of a rant, but surely you can see my point. I didn't buy a £400 device which breaks after a year, to then be told that my only option is to fork out far more money than I am willing to spend on a repair or replacement which should only cost a couple dozen pounds in the first place.

Frustrated yet sympathetic to your position and eagerly awaiting your response,

aon

The rectangle shape of the charging port would actually reduce the leverage the charger would have on the section where the charging port attaches to the main board so this could also be seen as a good thing instead of a bad thing.

I couldn’t comment regarding if it would be covered under warranty or not in any circumstance as it would need to be assessed by a local authorised repair agent before we could confirm its condition. I can however elaborate on the BER, to repair this correctly the entire main board would need to be replaced as the charging port is physically attached to the main board. For a small company to repair this they would be either gluing or soldering on the part and I would not like to comment on the potential problems that this could create.

But after I tried like you've mentione (power switch & volume up together) it started vibrating and now, thank God, there is some light on the screen. but it is not back to the normal main screen yet. what next should i do? the screen just shows a battry charging symbol in the centre of it, if i press the power key. the device is still in charging mode. what is next, to get the phone running normally? thanks in advance, by SJ
