Brand new Sony Xperia SP issues

Hi,

I went to the store to buy a Micromax Canvas 4 HD smartphone and since it was out of stock, I took a demo of Sony mobiles and was quite impressed by the look and feel and also the audio and video experience. No doubt Sony beats the rest when it comes to picture and sound. I also read online reviews and found that Soby Xperia SP is pretty good.

So, I just bought a brand new Sony Xperia SP 3 days ago and here are my alarming experiences so far!

1. The very night I got the phone, I was unable to charge the phone using the sony cable and adapter that came along in the box. I had to keep the phone switched off whole night and had to go back to the store in the morning. They checked it in all possible power outlets and USB ports too and the phone didn't show any charging icon, so the conclusion was that the handset was faulty! They gave me another Xperia Handset and I tried charging it and all other basic features and they were working. Thank God I didn't order it online.

2. Once, I came home with the new replaced handset, I found that the phone only charges with the box provided Adapter and cable. It doesn't charge with any of the other USB phone charging cables that I have which was quite disturbing for me. Hoping that I would be able to at least use the sony cable to charge it from any available USB ports, I tried it in my car's audio player which has a USB port too. And to my disappointment, it didn't charge there! Whereas my previous phones used to charge from any USB outlet using any USB cable.

I then took the Sony cable along to my workplace hoping that I would be able to charge it from my office laptop's USB port, but to my bigger disappointment, even that didn't work! My office has a secured network and the IT department has disabled the USB ports to prevent data transfer, however all phones that I have used so far have worked with any USB cable in my office laptop for charging purpose. Finally, today my phone went out of battery and I had to switch it off mid way.

3. When I play music and start browsing the internet on the phone, the music just stopes suddenly at a random point. It is not consistent and happens at different durations of a song. Pressing the Pause button doesn't do anything and I have to start all over again. This is such an annoying experience.

I read some public forum posts saying that running a phone repair and deleting all data and a fresh install will help the music sopping issue, but I am not sure how authentic or reliable that information is.

I had such strong brand trust in the quality of Sony, but after buying this phone stretching beyond my budget I feel that I am in big loss. In fact, I went to the store to check if I can return this handset and get another brand (Samsung/HTC etc) instead, but they said, they can't help it since it has been sold to me already.

Being such a brand, not addressing or testing the basic features such as charging and not supporting common cables/ports and lacking in flexibility is really unexpected and highly disappointing. Most other brands are flexible with USB charging with all available cables and ports and they are not restricting customers to their brand cables and adapters. I wouldn't have gone for Sony, only if I knew about this. Now, I am in a fix. I am almost losing my trust from Sony products and I am in the verge of recommending my friends not to be a scapegoat like me.

Could you please explain on the above issues and tell me if there is any workaround available to charge my handset in restricted USB ports which work for other handsets and also use other charging cables. If not, why are you restricting customers to only Sony cables and hence causing such big inconvenience which essentially doesn't make it a smartphone at the first place.

Also, is there any workaround or solution to the music stopping issue while browsing?

Hoping to hear from you soon!

Regards,

Premangshu
