Hi,

I would like to know if my phone is faulty.
Bought Xperia Z (Model c6603, recently updated to Andrroid 4.2.2, build no. 10.3.1.A.0.244) from Amazon May this year. Lately, notice it has the following problems:

1. Phone calls seem to be randomly cut off.
For a very short call(less than 5 minutes), it seems OK, calls longer than that very frequently got cut off even I was standing on the same spot all the time (so this is no signal strength change. Very very irritating in the middle of a conversation.

2. No voice
Sometimes, when I make a call, the receiver often cannot hear my voice whilst I can hear theirs. Have to hang up and try again which tends to work.

3.Voice jumbled up.
When I make a call, very often my voice or the caller's would jumble up and broken.

4. Difficulties in dialing
Sometimes, when I dial a number, it shows to be dialing, but there is no dialing tone, and after about 30 seconds, it just hang up saying dialing ended. Then only way to get it to work again is to switch off the phone and on again. Extremely frustrating.

Ran the xperia diagnose app, found nothing wrong. I haven't installed many apps, it still has 1GB RAM free.

Can someone please tell me if this is hardware fault?

As all of these problems seem tied solely to the phone function itself it would be worth while trying to clear that app and if that does not work run a repair:

Main Menu > Settings > Apps > All > Phone > Clear Data.

1. Download the PC Companion software from http://www.sonymobile.com/gb/tools/pc-companion/
and install it on your PC.
2. Install and open PC Companion then select Support Zone.
3. Phone Software Update.
4. Start.
5. Repair Phone
6. Continue
7. Accept data removal
8. Next
9. Wait for prepare
10. Select Phone
11. Follow the connection steps

Hi Sam,

Thanks for the reply. What does the repair function do? Does it erase all my data and reset the phone to factory mode?

Is there anyway I can back up my contacts and text messages?

The pc companion has a back up system, your contacts can be backed up but they already will likely be synced to your gmail account

Hi Sam,

Tried both the clear data and then phone repair steps as suggsted in your post. However, it doesn't seem to work. The phone still randomly cuts off calls. Really really irritating. Any other suggestions?

Are you able to get your hands on a secondary SIM to test in the phone at all?

Im on the same build number and ive experienced the phone waiting to dial a number then nothing happens as in your point no. 4, then the other day at home... all day, the phone was cutting in and out as in point no. 2/3. Thought it was from moving into a new house with metal sheet roofing but seems to be better today. I will have to try calling people again tomorrow, seems to be signal/reception related problem.
