I have the same problem since three weeks ago. I suspect it has something to do with the headphone jack. When it first happened I thought for some reason there was some pocket lint in the jack. I took a pin and tried to clean it. Nothing came out but the phone worked as good as it can again. Second time it happened I did the "cleaning" again with same result, the phone worked. Luck or hardware problem? I dont know.

hi there!

as problems won't stop on my 3 weeks old SP, i also had this one.

i assumed that the phone didn't recognize the last unplugging of my earphones and was still in "headset-mode" (even if it didn't show me any sign...)

my solution: plug in a mini jack (earphone etc.), wait a few seconds, and unplug it again. my device recognized this process and changed to "normal-phone-mode" again...

cheers,

m

ps: dear sony-staff: i'm happy to do your job!

I would really be glad if you are able to do their work but its not working for me. I have sent my Xperia SP for repair they told me its hardware problem. So everyone who have this problem should go to a service centre fast. Thank you .

@Sony, if my phone is not fixed the next phone im getting is definitely from your best friend Samsung.

I had the same problem a couple of times, and @mixingsuite3000 was dead right about the solution.

I'm pretty sure this is not a hardware issue, the problem is that the phone isn't realising you unplugged the headphones sometimes.

Tested it just now by calling my girlfriend's phone - the ear speaker wasn't working.

- Hung up the call, plugged headphones for a couple of seconds, then unlugged them.

- Called my girlfriend again, now the ear speaker works fine!

This makes sense as I use the phone a lot as a music player, so I am plugging in and unplugging the headphones at least a couple of times a day.

It seems this issue has to do with software because ever since the jelly bean 4.3 update my phone doesn't behave the same,it even flickers sometimes. And now i thought the ear piece was gone but after trying the plugging and unplugging headsets thing it's working again.I use my bluetooth headset for music all the time but when the battery died i decided to plugg in the ear phones and when I unplugged without turning off the music the ear piece had no sound during calls before the update I could do this most of the time and the phone was still fine. My bluetooth headset was also quick to connect and i could start playing music in seconds but now it takes time, the headset can be connected but when I try play music it plays through the phones speaker. I think Sony Software team are doing half their job it's time you get serious!

I had the same problem of no sound from both speakers of handset whether it is music/video playback or calls. I resolved it via plugging in / out headphones few times and problem resolved.

This worked for me. I had the same issue with my xperia sp phone, now it works again just by plugging/unplugging the headphones. Thanks for the solution!
