Thanks for the reply.

Forget the router and WIFI for a minute. The issue is the same using 2 Xperia T handsets (one as a Hotspot) and throwing to the TV (TV connected to the Xperia T set as a Hotspot). The issue is just the same when recording in the lowest video quality, 640x480. A 1 minute video will stop more than 10 times!

Any other ideas?

Any one else use the throw function to play a video recorded on the handset to a smart TV either using wifi or the hotspot method.

When I playback any recordings on my Samsung TV using throw, they are not watchable, as the stop start every 5 seconds. Sony did originally say that the function can only be supported when using a Sony TV and since that time I tested the function on a Sony TV with the same results.

What happens if you record a video in a lower resolution and try playing that using Throw? To me it sounds as if the WiFi connection between the phone/router/TV is not fast enough.

If your TV is connected with WiFi as well, try connecting it with a cable and if that doesn't help, could you try with another router?

Throw is not limited to Sony TV's. You can read more about Throw here: http://talk.sonymobile.com/t5/FAQ/DLNA/m-p/351822.

Using an Xperia T as connection between the phone and TV is actually not ideal. The Xperia T can not provide the same bandwidth as a standard wireless router or access point using 802.11n.

But just to make sure this is not a problem with the TV, try Throw to a computer running XBMC as explained in the link i posted earlier.
