I recently bought a 16 GB Xperia Tablet Z and reluctantly returned it due to static interference with the microphone. This is different to the microphone volume issue.

It occurs when you plug in a pair of heaphones during a video call or when recording audio. The person you are calling will hear pulsating static (like morse code) making it impossible to hold a conversation. It can also be heard in an audio recording playback. It did not always occur when the headphones were plugged in before the call or audio recording.

For me this was a deal breaker and I got my money back as I like to use headphones outdoors sometimes during a video call for clarity and privacy.

I returned my tablet to the shop and they tested another unit and it had the same problem. I believe its a common problem that many have not have been discovered yet.

Has anyone else found this issue? I suggest you test your units.

I would love to know its solved and buy another one.

damn! mean I am screwed too... I need to return mine bought just two week ago.. it was fine untill recently I got the problem you have mentioned.

I have used Skype & Hangout both to make sure the probelm is with the tablet. Mine has the following issues:

1. Speaker Volume is too low during Skype & Hangout calls even if the volume is 100%

2. Stuttering Sound, freezing Video, and strange sound of like two metal rods are bangging (tin tin) for the next person (which is me coz tablet is used by my wife)

3. If you lower the volume, the Mic seems ok and problem 2 getting solved, but than speaker sound is extremely low for human ears.

4. However, when you use headset, everthing seems like working fine.

5. Wireless Antena is too weak, where my kid's Galaxy 7" Tab works flawlessly, there Sony doesn't work.

I have reset it to factory setting and still having the same issue.

I think I also need a refund or atleast working unit, I like the tablet though.
