Charging flap won't close properly

Hi all,

I've had my Xperia Z for about two months now, great phone very happy with it except for this nagging issue. The waterproofing flap on my charging port won't close properly any more, everytime I close it the flap would pop out again after about 30 seconds. It's quite annoying to have it flapping about all the time but obviously it also means that my phone is no longer waterproof. The flap itself looks like new and the seal hasn't been damaged or anything, it just wouldn't stay in place. Is this a common problem? Should I send it back for a replacement?

Hello schan,

I am having the same issue with the earphones flap.

I have tried to force it to the original position by adding a sticker for a couple of days, but when I remove it and open it, it will pop out again.

I am thinking of bringing it to an Official Technical Support point, but this sounds stupid to me as I have had the phone just for a couple of weeks.

I don't want to think what could happen in one year.

I would have to advise returning the phone so that it may be assessed by an authorised agent sorry.

What are your thoughts about this forum? Let us know by doing this short survey.

Hi all,

I am having the same issue with my Sony Xperia ZR. The flap is not closing properly, it pops out...

Hopefully the same would be resolved at service outlet.

I got the same issue on my very new ZR (2 weeks).

At first I found the flap quite efficient then I started to play with my new toy so I charged a lot, forgot about the flap...

Now that my usage is more reasonable, I noticed the flap start to pop up after a few second.

It stays inside but clearly it s no more waterproof and above all it s UGLY!

I tried to clean the port as advised in another post on xperia care but it was only a bit better.

Wait a few second and it s out.

I think it comes from the connection between the port and the small rubber/plastic oval that enable the water protection.

As cleaning with towel... didn't work, I took a small sharp knife and I gently rubbed the rim of the usb port on the phone.

Of course be very careful. I did it very gently with no real hope it will work (I was ready to go to sony).

I just wanted to be sure it was total clean and finaly................ it worked for me!

I just hoped I won't need to do that too often...

Hello guys I was having the same problem with my xperia zr and trust me that was frustrating until I decided to pick up my girlfriend hair blower and reheat the charging flap
I put a little bit of heat not too much and then I closed the flap and hold it down until it gets cool again and now my flap is working like the first day
You can try that if you want and let me know if it works for you

My earphone flap on my Experia Z doesnt stay closed either and its less than 12 months old. Where can I take it Darwin to get it fixed?

So the same thing has started happening with my 3week old Z2. You'd think they'd have designed something better for a phone this expensive. Is this something that Sony will fix or replace?

Ditto, usb/charger side for me:

So I lost the seal on my xperia Z phone for the usb/charger port (that makes it waterproof).
I contact Sony and they reply, "you have the option of sending the device in for evaluation and possible repair. To start the process you can contact us at 1-866-766-9374. The repair process can take an approximate 14 business days."
Yet another Sony satisfying experience.

Please note the the wonderful Sony responses here. They are ever so attentive....

I also have this problem with my Sony Xperia Z2...As I rarely open or close the Micro SD flap that isn't a problem, but the charging port...Sony - We need to charge our phones EVERY DAY, therefore the charging port / sim card flap that ensures the phone is water tight should be up to the job & not keep popping open a second after you've closed it! I have tried cleaning it thoroughly & carefully but to no avail! Sony Xperia Z2, no longer water proof after you've charged it a few times!

I'm having the exact same problem, happend few weeks after I bought the phone , kept popping open,then fell out so I had to purchase another one from a certified Sony repairs site for about £5, and now even this one is doing it and its been ten days. Definitely a fault by sony.

Had the same problem with Xperia Z Tablet and now my Xperia Z3 Compact phone. I obviously didn't learn my lesson. Now they're telling me it'll take 5-7 working days (from when they receive it!) to sort it out.

And no phone offered in the interim.

What is it with these guys? I've bene loyal to the brand for years and their service is useless, just like the O2 mobile shop I got it from

Xperia Z3 Compact. Usb flap keep popping out. Now my phone isn't waterproof anymore. N what's more annoying is. It is ugly! Hope Sony will replace it f.o.c & I'll consider buying magnetic charger after getting this usb cover replaced.
