Hi,

A few days ago, my phone started do show a very strange problem;

A few seconds after the wifi first connects (or the phone boots up, not 100% sure which but i think it's the wifi), the wifi stops working.

However, when i go into settings, i can't turn the wifi off. Also, if i leave my house and go anywhere out of range of my hotspot, it still shows as connected.

When i try to reboot my phone, i get the usual dialog asking me if i'm sure i want to shut down the phone, and it will show the "Shutting Down" window indefinately. Holding the power button again shows the "Do you want to shut down" prompt again, under the shutting down window. The only way i can get it to turn off is by holding the power button untill the phone forces shutdown.

This happens with any hotspot, not just the one at my home.

I'm using Android 4.0.4, kernel version 3.0.8+, and build number 6.1.1.B.1.10 (i'm not sure which i need to show :P)

Any ideas on what may be wrong, or how i could resolve this?

I just noticed something that might be relevant;

When i just rebooted my phone after this problem again, i noticed that this time the wifi was still working fine after a minute.

I've recently started working at a new place where i don't have wifi access, and i occasionally chat on facebook. I realised that each time i got home i received an unusual amount of push messages from Facebook chat (after i rebooted to get the wifi working again), and shortly after that, wifi stops working.

Is it possible that the extreme amount of messages (at least 30 in under 3 seconds) somehow bugs my wifi out, or that facebook has started doing some things it shouldn't be after an update?

I'll keep testing this theory a few times to find out if it only happens after a lot of messages, or any facebook activity at all.

They are aware of the problem but disgustingly haven't fixed it.

I am having the same problem. It is ridiculous because Wi-Fi is basically unusable because the only way to make it go away is restarting it, but it happens all day. Reseting the phone to factory defaults and wiping it only makes the problem go away temporarily. I have ICS .10. My girlfriend has the same phone, and the problem happend at the same time too.

LoL? This is support forum, how can just WIFI problem you want to take Sony Corporation to the court? That problem maybe solve in the next update..

Has anyone tried checking if there is an update availible trough that PC companion? I don't have it installed here, but i'll try when i get home.

I don't expect something to be released already, but it's worth trying

Ok, I accidentaly discovered how to turn of WiFi easily, without rooting. My battery is very weak, so I turned on battery power saver (settings->power management->extended standby mode). Thing is when you turn it on and the phone is in standby mode, android turns off all internet comunications (WiFi and data transfer). So if you want to turn off WiFi, just turn on "extended standby mode" then turn off WiFi and lock the phone. After that WiFi should be off. You may torn off "extended standby mode" after that.
