LOL
Why would I want to post a comment to such an old post?
That's because I have found the right cure for the cracking noise!

After some testing for months (which I think long for my own experience), it seems the developers do not include af.resampler.quality string in the build.prop file

which is IMPORTANT for post processing the bad audio output and make it better by resampling (compensate the cracking).

This was found on many tweaked build.prop files over XDA but not all the strings in those file help the audio perform better except for the one above.

So if you got your Xperia sola (or any other phone that got cracking) rooted, make sure add this line:

af.resampler.quality=4

to the bottom of your build.prop file!

I do not know the range of valid values that can be used for this string but it seems 4 managed to balance between quality, performance and power consumption.

And yeah IT WILL EAT YOUR BATTERY if you set too high but you will have the best quality possible for your phone...

So give it a try...

Hello,

My new Xperia Sola is making silent, but noticable clicking or cracking sound on one (left) earphone channel when screen is off (for example when I press lock button it starts to make silent cracking noise). It is noticable when listening to music on low volume. I've tried other earphones, but this is really phone's problem. When phone is unlocked (or screen is on), sound quality is good, no noticable clicking or cracking sound.

Maybe and other Sola users have this noise, but haven't noticed yet? What should I do?

Thanks for help in advance.

This sounds like a hardware problem in your phone but before you contact your local Sony Xperia support (http://www.sonymobile.com/global-en/support/contact-us/) or a service location, try repairing the phones software using PC Companion and try it without any 3:rd party apps and see if the problem remains.

Yes, I've tried several different music players and original one, but this problem repeats on all of players.

I've heard, that with new version of android software (currently I have 2.3.7) Sola is too low on RAM and starts to lag. Is it worthful to try apgrade it?

Android 4 uses more RAM so you may notice that the performance is affected depending on what apps you use.

To have the software reinstalled with Android 2.3 or if you want to downgrade the phone from Android 4 to 2.3 you need to contact a service location.
