Battery and screen wake up problem.

Hi guys,

Been using my Xperia V for 2 months now, great phone but recently 2 problems have been surfacing that concerns me with regards to the phone.

1. Battery: When I turn off my phone at a given percentage of battery, say 24%, subsequently when I power it on again, even if it was just to restart, after it boot up again, battery level magically became at around 58% with such a huge increment at an instant of a reboot. When I charge the phone from that point at 58%, as it reaches 100%, I turn my charger off and used it for a while and the battery will suddenly drop to 83% in a few seconds. This phenomenon worries me about the phone's battery, when is the percentage jumping to and fro so drastically? I know it may be a problem with the battery percentage indicator on the software side but this is getting all too frequent and using it as time goes worries me about the phone's durability. What could be the problem here? Could it be a hardware problem? Would buying a new battery help?

2. Display: I understand that the Sleep of Death (SoD) issue is said to be solved with the 4.1.2 Jelly Bean update and a search round the web confirms that fellow Xperia V users no longer see the SoD issue appearing again. But to my dismay, once yesterday, as I wanted to wake my phone up from sleep, I pressed on the power button, all I got was a backlit black screen with nothing shown on the screen, my notifications continued to sound, so I can confirm that my phone is still running fine in the background but the screen is just a blank black screen. Locking the phone and unlocking it does no difference, pressing and holding the power button makes no difference as well, my only choice left was to remove the battery and insert back in again to power my phone back on and then the display worked again. Is this the SoD issue that has plagued the Xperia V since day one? Although it happened just once, I am now having this uncertainty that this may happen again at a time when I will need my phone urgently, such an incident worries me. What could be the problem here? Could it be a hardware problem as well?

These are my 2 main problems faced with my Xperia V, using the phone for just 2 months and such problems start to surface is really disappointing and worrying. My previous Samsung Galaxy S II has no such problems with both the battery and display and my confidence in switching to Sony in hope for a better smartphone experience has indeed started to fade off due to such possible hardware issues. Kindly advise on what should I do next, I would really hope that such issues could be ironed out asap. Many thanks to all in advance.

Regarding the battery problem i recommend that you first try the suggestions in this thread: http://talk.sonymobile.com/t5/FAQ/Facing-problems-with-abnormal-battery-and-shutdown/m-p/320376.

If those suggestions doesn't help i would try the phone with another battery.

The 2:nd problem doesn't sound like the problem we had in earlier versions. If it has only happened once it was probably some type of hang/freeze in the software. In case it should happen again i recommend that you contact a service location for further investigation of the phone.
