Turning off the charging LED?

Dear Sony,

Appologies if this is already covered, searching just finds old issues with LED and stamina.

I'd like to disable the charging LED. I've started using a dock at night and I can't hide it by butting the phone face down. I've solved the issue of notifications when I'm asleep with the Smart Connect SW turning off all data so I can't get them but the charge light is annoying.

Should this not be an option in Smart Connect to disable LED and then use the between hours to activate? The only option I can find anywhere is the 'pulse notification light' that seems to do nothing.

I'm running the Aus unbranded .253 software.

the led uses so small amount of power, that turning it off would give insignificant amount of extra power. most especially when charging. I think no app would be available to turn off during charging,

Personally I don't care the LED consumes the power output of a whole power station.

I just don't want it lighting up my whole room at night when it is on charge.

I did try a few LED managers, none could disable the charge LED.

Sony, please build in this feature either in the phone or the smart connect app. (the phone would be better)

Unfortunately it's not possible to turn this of by default (might be possible having root access but I'm not totally sure). But I will pass you feedback further on internally about this.

Well, let's hope that this issue will be solved quickly, cause i have the same experiences.

It should be possible to disable the charging-Led.

I use the docking-charge as well and the LED is very annoying.

So, speed it up a bit please ! Should not be a very big problem to fix.

...think, Sony just forget that people sleep too..... :smileygrin:

(btw, i like the Xperia Z very much !, but i would like to sleep as well.....)

I think you can use a black electrical tape until you find a software update or you can charge your phone in another room, oh hey throw it from the window!

2nd that, it lights up the bedroom at night, it should at least dim when charged..

I also second this issue (or undocumented feature). I typically charge my new Z1 in the charging dock and the LED lights up the room! To have it as a feature of Smart Connect would be awesome! Or even just in the notification bar.

Im guessing there hasnt been a fix or update to solve the problem as this post seems the only relavent one on the issue.

P.S - Apart from that I am loving the Z1.

Hmm... almost half a year gone and no update for this. This charge led is really annoying in night time and im not going to use "tape" on my xperia to hide that light. Problem is not how much power it uses, but it lights up whole bedroom. It cant be this hard to make option to software that we can choose will we want to use charging led or not. Plz do something to this, very nice phone this ZR, but i have to think switching phone, if this cannot be turned off.

I totally agree with.this, I have just switched from a Samsung s3 to.a xperia z1 compact and with the Samsung there.is an option of turning the light off when docked, so why not for the xperia range?

Well I'm waiting for a fix too! Charging Led annoying as **bleep**! I turn over to check the time and get blinded by the led! Sony, I love you but sort it out!

I agree. The LED defeats the point of the charging dock for me.

Based on a previous phone model (motorolla), I assumed that there would be a nice built-in app that dims all lights and show a night clock automatically when you place the phone on the dock.

Shouldn't this be a pretty basic feature for a smartphone? I want to use it as my night clock but the hyper bright LED shining in the dark makes this impossible!

Please Sony, address this!

I also do vote for this option. It simply kills the concept of dock clock... Please add this feature to smart connect.

Agreed! The light is so bright I can see enough in my blacked-out room to walk around with no trouble!

Please add a toggle for this in any way possible. I don't even use the notification LED because it distracts me and people around me!

I can't use my phone at night because the light is so distracting, wish I could turn it off. Dad has the same problem. What's the point of lowering the brightness if a little light will still blind you, also don't want to cheapen the phone by adding tape or a sticker but it appears as though I'll have to):

Ok there is a way around it - HURRAH! not fully tested it but it seems to work so far.

Download lightflow

This method is based around the logic of if you can't stop it flashing, at least we can make it so dark/dull (and static if you prefer) that you won't even notice it.

You will need to create notifications for both charged battery and charging battery.

So... take Charging battery:

Under Notification tab:

- put a tick in Enable notification

- exclude from sleep mode

Under Light tab:

- Put a tick in Enable ligh

- Select Notification colour

- Go for Custom Colour

- select bottom right - the blackest / purple-ist you can find!

- hit ok

-Select Light duration - here either chose always on or very slow depending on how sensitive you are - I found always on less distracting than waiting for it to flash, no matter how the dark the light is.

- change light duration to either do not automatically switch off if you NEVER want to see the charging light, even in the day, or say Stop after 8 hours instead.

- If opting for flashing rather than a static light, change LED flash rate to Custom LED Flash rate and fiddle with the milliseconds - extend the off part by many zeros!

Repeat for Charged battery option.

Just to add tha hte above solution did work. It just takes a moment or two to register that it's been plugged in to a charger. Hurrah no more bright lights!
