Data traffic in Flight mode

Hi Folks,

I am just wondering if anyone else experienced the subjected problem?

For the evening I set my phone to flight mode and when I wake up I can see some new viber or whatsup messages. As I can see no other activity goes on.

Now I just have checked when I set the flight mode the "data" tab remains yellow, but for me it is strange. In my understanding in flight mode all cellular and data communication shall be switched off.

I have the latest 12.0.A.1.257 firmware on the phone.

Any suggestion?

I just have tested last night and when I switch off the data tab as well there is still new gmail message on my phone at morning....

When you are in flight mode you can't get any data connection to the network. However Wi-Fi will be available. So it sounds to me like your phone gets a Wi-Fi conenction and that's why you get mails when the phone is in flight mode.

If you have Wi-Fi turned off and still gets mails it may be so that you have Location-based Wi-Fi active. Then the phone will automatically activate Wi-Fi when in range of a saved Wi-Fi network. You'll find the option under settings > power management.

When I get up the wifi indicator shows it is off, but yes, the location based wifi is enabled. On the otherhand even if the location based operation is activated then the airplane mode should be overwrite it, if not that I would consider it as a bug.

Wi-Fi is allowed in airplane mode. Only the connections to the mobile network is inactivated in airplane mode. Many airlines even offers Wi-Fi onboard their flights.

Ok, to be clear: the phone shows the wifi is switched off ( information bar and widget as well), so something is wrong i guess when i receive viber messaga in airplane mode.

So, last night I already deactivated the Location-based Wifi option, and were put the phone in flight mode. When I got up I had already one viber message received.

Any further idea?

So, I still have the issue....

Than could you confirm if it is normal to receive viber message when the phone is airplane mode, wifi switched off, data communication is switched off.

Just would like to know the answer of the support before I bring it back to the shop.

I suggest that you backup your phone and then make a factory reset of your phone. Then I suggest that you don't download any apps to your phone. Set the phone in airplane mode and try to send a Gmail message to the phone. If you don't get any messages then you can try to download Viber and try the same. It sounds like there is an app in your phone that activates Wi-Fi in your phone and it's therefore you get messages in airplane mode.
