I would advise speaking to your network regarding this as in some cases the network may have a roaming agreement with another network so your handset can roam to their signals/towers when there is not a strong enough signal from the network you are currently using.

What are your thoughts about this forum? Let us know by doing this short survey.

Looking at your problem, my guess is that you are using a Docomo SIM. Looks like Xperia L and Docomo doesnt get along well. Try using a different operator SIM, you will certainly not see "R". It is not only "R", with Docomo SIM the Data connection wont be smooth.

I bought this phone today only and i m facing the same issue. I've a docomo card and its showing roaming even though i'm in my home network only and i m not able to connect to internet. I'm very disappointed as this my first smartphone and feel that i wasted my 17000 bucks. Can anyone tell me how to get a replacement of this phone as i bought it online?

please enable data roaming connection on settings menu.....after that you can access internet in roaming. And in india now internet roaming is free. so you can easilly browse internet if you go outside of your circle. so don't worry about the roaming symbol. i am also used the TATA Docomo SIM in many phones and it shows the roaming symbol. but it doesn't matter.

I understand it is an issue. I too faced it but am using Airtel SIM since I have two numbers. Apart from this problem, I see the phone to be very good. It runs swift. It is very decent for its price. The price will even come down further.

exactly same problem here. Xperia L does not detect docomo as home network.

as you said, it doesn't matter ... have not tried the data connection yet.

I am using the Tata docomo SIM and even in the home location roaming symbol is displayed. as i am using the post paid connection i gave a complaint regarding the same, the technical team from docomo verified the status and every thing and told the phone is having the problem not the SIM.

In the above thread Sony team replied saying issue is with the SIM. then here my question is before buying Xperia L, I was using the Sony erricson Neo V ( ICS) i was using the same SIM card i never saw this issue and even if i put the same SIM in other mobiles like Nokia and Samsung its working fine

Simply giving a statement saying the problem with the SIM card will not help us in any way. i clearly conform that there is an issue from your side. please provide update so that it will fix the problem or again shamelessly you will the blame on the operator

Having such a big brand name SONY

Without solving the issue releasing the mobiles in to the market making the people to buy and suffer and then blaming the operators is not the right thing

I feel other then the quality the Micromax mobiles are better then sony in software prospective

This Support forum is ment for addressing the customers issues, if they are valid you need to address in right way and fix them as soon as possible

We wasting our time writing the reviews in your form. you people are not even addressing

Is it the right way.

These support people are blaming the operators with out knowing any thing. i feel these people dont know any thing technically

other than than these two above replies they dont know any thing

and i visited the service centre they are saying they did't even hear about this issue......... Ha ha ha ha

Tata Docomo confirmed to that user that it's a problem on their end and not with the phone.

I am having the same problem both with all idea,airtel and aircel sims. I cannot access 3g network at all in all the mentioned networks. I am from bangalore.Definitely a problem with the phone. Please help sony. Feel like a waste of hard earned 17000 bucks.

I guess it is not the problem of phone but the problem of docomo network. i am facing the same problem with docomo though yet i didn't try to use other networks. and yes data connection is not smooth. it stops ofently and it's annoying.

I aslo spoke to the Tata Docomo people, they are telling it is not the problem from their side. if it is a problem as you have sent me the post of ashokc19. then why the same sim card is working with the other mobiles. do you have any answer for this

I think this problem is only in india.

In newer device like Xperia M, L, C, They have also same issue.

Do your own test!

First Switch your network mode in "GSM only"

Now Tap on Network operators You will see Operators list According to your network area check Screenshot below

Here is the thing when I clicked on Videocon i didn't get this popup check ss below(I said i didn't get this because when you connect your network to other operators you will see similar message but i didn't get this because Tata docomo have type with Aircel and Videocon)

Here when i clicked on videocon i didn't get above message, it's directly selected without any message.

i am able to do incoming and outgoing calls in this network without roaming charge but can't surf internet.

Now I get back and pressed again Network and operators then i get this result check ss below xD

Videocon turn into TATA DOCOMO And First one aircel operators was TATA DOCOMO check ss1

When i clicked on videocon it's turn into tata docomo and when i clicked on aircel again it will turn to tata docomo.

That's it!

We can access internet only in Aircel Netowrk.

yea that's true this problem is not in other device. you will not see this issue in older sony device, new device only but i spoke with tata docomo trust me they told me this problem is from their side. I am just sharing what I have experienced.

Not sure why this only happens in some phones but a quick search on the internet shows that this happens for other users as well (also on other products from different brands and with different operating systems).

I would recommend that you contact your local Sony Xperia support (http://www.sonymobile.com/global-en/support/contact-us/) to see if they know more about this. As this has to do with a local operator it's hard for me to test this and if needed, make an escalation.

But i do know that with some operators and SIM-cards the phone will always show that you're roaming. This is usually with operators that don't have their own network but instead use other operators networks. We also have a few of those operators here in the nordics. One operator for example uses SIM-cards from another country which causes the phone to think that you're roaming.

I'm using this device from last 3 weeks and some time its says roaming in home network.

I'm using vodafone sim from last 3 years an it never shows my previous device false notification .

Now Sony have many software issues on Xperia L,M.
