connection issue Win8 x64

I have problems connecting my phone to the pc (Win8, x64) via USB: "Common" things like media transfer are working but when it gets to updating or reparing the phone via PC Companion or SUS I can't connect it anymore: Connecting the phone and pressing as it needs to be done when updating results in a error message [German original text]:

"USB-Gerät wurde nicht erkannt. Das letzte USB-Gerät, das an diesem Computer angeschlossen wurde, hat nicht ordnungsgemäß funktioniert und wird nicht von Windows erkannt."

the equivalent english error message would be: "USB Device not recognized: One of the devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned and windows does not recognize it."

Although the device can be connected in order to transfer data I suspect some sort of driver problem.

Does anyone know ways to connect the phone properly again?

edit: it has to be a problem linked to Win8 x64. Connecting to a Win7 PC causes no problems

Check if you can manually assign the drivers when you receive this error. Otherwise head over to the device manager and manually assign the drivers from the PC Companion drivers folder.
