Phone heating up

Hi,

after 20 months my xperia arc is heatng up at the top of the phone (by the camera) and then drains the battery.

i have replaced the battery but still have the same problem, i don't think it is the battery as that is at the bottem of the phone, i have reinstalled the sofeware and done a factory reset but still have the same problem

i take good care of the phone, have never dropped it and keep in a in case

i called t-mobile as the phone is still under guarantee, their telling me to knock off the wi-if when not using the phone, but i have never had to do this before!

or, the new battery could be a dud (so t-mobile are telling me) is there any way to test the battery by connecting the phone to the computer? Just so i can tell t-mobile to get there finger out and repair or replace the phone.

any help please.

The heat is normal and is due to the processor working hard performing a task of some description. Please check what you have running currently on the phone and uninstall any third party apps like task killers or battery saving apps you may have installed.

I have purchased arc s almost 2 months before and sometimes my phone also get heated by itself even when i m not using it and phone in idle mode for long time and also drains the battery as well. once i removed the battery cover when it was too hot to handle i feel the heat at sim jacket place so that i think this problem is due to problem in sim jacket place and i am now using it without sim from a day or so and now it is not heating up by itself.

Any idea about what is causing this?

you have to check whats draining your battery

if you have wifi on and you are syncing facebook, or any other social apps it will drain your battery

No i don;t use wifi much so it remains off always only if i require it as well as all background data services are disabled and background sync also off as well as i have also disabled all social apps as well. i have erased all my apps and data once and hard restore as well but still facing this problem, that;s why i am also surprised as well and still trying to figure out things.

One thing is that may be my sim slot area has some loose connection internally b;coz it is that place which gets hot.

thanks for all replies,

i had reinsalled the Android sofeware using pc companion so i do not have any downloaded apps, only those that came with the phone.

i have not been on facebook, skype, etc since i did a reinstallation

the top part of the phone is too hot to be normal processing!

while the phone is idle the battery drains from 100% to 0% in about 30mins then the phone turns itself off.

this has started to happen after 20months of being a great phone for no known reason at all

i will remove the sim card to see if this a problem and get back to you all

Lawrence same thing happening to me as well, my phone also get heated in idle mode and battery drain quickly but not 100% and then my phone turn off itself.

I have removed the sim card from a day and a half to check as well and since then heating problem is not arised yet.

Further updates and finding will be share from everybody as well in a day or so time.

i have Upgraded to ICS yesterday and since then everything is working fine for me as i have kept my phone still on testing no third party software installed yet as well.

Phone not turning off in idle mode now as well as heating problem is also solved.

Hi Jabirshah,

after taking to T-Mobile i am ready to send back my phone for repair, before i do this i will try and follow what you have done, but i need your help.

how do I upgrade to ICS, When i connect my phone to Sony pc companion it tells me i have the latest software!

my phones details tell me that i have Android version 2.3.4 is this ICS?

if not how do i upgrade to ICS

most likely Tmobile is not going to release ICS on this phone, you can manually update your phone

thanks for the link, but it seems out of date, i cannot download the tools i need, can you or someone point me to the right place where i can download the latest flashtool and ICS i need to proceed.

i have had a look around google to try and find the tools and instuctions but not had much luck.

sorry about this but i am having problems following you advice

would you mind explaining to me step by step how to download flashtool and ICS, after i have these flies i will be fine.

just so you know, i do follow your link, i click on download flashtool, the only one i can see is V0.9.11.0 can you let me know this is the correct flashtool to download.

when i click on download ICS for Xerperia Arc, it takes me to a page that tells me i have to download 3 parts! but if i click on part 1-3 it leads to another page that states the file or flies have been removed!

i am pretty good at upgrading or flashing (TV,s PVR,s etc.) but hitting a brick wall with this one.

but, the link you have sent me is for the Xeperia Arc S

my phone is the Experia Arc.

i have ICS ready to go, but not sure about the flashtool

which version do i need, i have 0.9.11.0 but it does not show ICS (that i have placed in the frirmware folder) do i have to update flashtool and if so how do i do this, as i do not see an update when running flashtool.

and i find it hard to download the correct version of flashtool from the link you gave me

just to give you details-

i have ICS version 4.0.2.A 0.42

i am sure is the right version for the experia arc

I have flashtool version 0.9.11.0 is this correct?

i have delated data in the firmware folder and replaced with ICS, when i run flashtool i click on flashmode and it shows 4.0.2.A.0.42 but the boxs to the right are blank, i cannot see wipe data or wipe cache or no final verifacation?

am doing something wrong or do i have the incorrect flashtool
