the only way this could happen is if you reformated the SD card, or if you mounted your sd card to your pc and transfered the pictures and then delete them, PCs could do this delete the pictures it transfer

you can't through the G+ app you will have to download them on a computer and then transfer them back to your phone.

perhaps your SD card is corrupted then, there is no other explanation either you formated the SD card, or the SD card is corrupted but anyway that's how to get them back.

is it possible that the process you used to share your pictures with G+ and picasa actually caused this problem

I've heard of the album app getting corrupted and having thumbnail issues but not the actual files themselves, they are always still there and intact, as you have already deleted them then we cannot investigate further

This is all rather strange but I think the clue is how you shared your pics to other services

you can download all photos to the pc and just copy them to the DCIM folder in your phone/sdcard.

- login to http://plus.google.com

- mouse over 'Home and click on Photos

- on the top menu, go to More > Auto-Backup.

All you need to do is "select all"(next to the dates) and click "Download". this will allow you to download all selected photos into a single zip files. then just unzip and copy them to your sd card.
