Microphone issues

My microphone sometimes stops working with apps such as the Camera, Google Now & Soundhound. However, it always works for phone calls. Anybody know how to fix this?

If the microphone just stops working sometimes and in some apps, it sounds like a software related issue. Have you tried repairing the phone software? If not, you should try it.

By the way, how do you use the microphone with the camera? Just a bit curious.

I had the same problem with my Xperia Z.

The problem is the latest version of Google Now it blocks the microphone for some reason.

I went to the Play Store and uninstalled the google now updates so only the old version of Google Now was left. After that everything was working fine.

Ok well its google now, but i want to use google now and it isnt a general problem with the phone model so what can i do? go to the SAT?

Same here.

Since yesterday i could stop the google search app und restart the app. after this, the microphone works fine, for a couple of hours. since today (new XZ update) it doesnt work anymore. when the microphone stops working i have to reboot the XZ.

I'm sure Google Now is causing the Problem.

But havnt heard about this Problem on any other phone.

I hope it will be fixed in an upcoming update.

i have the same problem in my zl... and not fixed after 4.2.2 update... i live in argentina right now so i can´t send the phone again to EEUU to fix o replace... so what to do? sell the phone and never buy sony again? i always liked sony but this is really disappointing.

After a long communication with Sony and explaining stuff to them apparently these are known FIRMWARE flaws. To answer Samuel's question you use the microphone in video camera. What happens is there is a 2 second lag and the video camera says "unknown error" and crashes. Voicesearch, notes microphone etc do not work in my and alot of other people's Xperia Z's. What annoys me is that SonyMoible support say repair your phone etc which is hopeless advice as there is a flaw in the firmware. The flaw is defintiely in 434 firmware which the only firmware available to UK to owners of generic Xperia Z's. The only solution is to do a factory reset and turn off all app updates. The whole thing is a joke this phone is the complete opposite of a smartphone.
