Where do I find Xperia V bluetooth drivers for Windows 7 (32bit)?

The phone is marked as "needs troubleshooting" under Devices-and-printers, with 5 bluetooth devices under its Hardware tab and in Device Manager marked with "The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)", "Unknown device" and "Manufacturer unknown".

Windows itself cannot find any drivers for it and web and Sony site searches haven't uncovered anything relevant either. PCCompanion doesn't seem to have the Windows drivers.

(Bluetooth tethering somehow works without these drivers, although I do lose Internet connection frequently and there doesn't seem to be any automatic connection option).

It would also make sense if the Xperia device had a custom icon under Devices-and-printers, currently there are up to 3 different devices listed for the phone if I also connect USB: 2 Xperia V's, one with a stock Windows phone icon, and one "LT25i" with stock server box icon (if I connect USB tethering).

Both the Bluetooth network connection via "Xperia V" and the USB tethering network connection via "LT25i" also increment their (generic) name+number with each re-connection, they're at "Network 32" and "Network 72" right now. This is quite weird.

Same problems on Win7 x64. Bluetooth cannot install drivers for Xperia V.

And same issue with networks - it's number increments with each reconnect. It's really annoying, looks like Windows think each time it is a new network...

Can someone advise on how to deal with this?

When you connect the phone to a computer using bluetooth the drivers used are standard drivers provided by the software for your computers bluetooth adapter. There are no (need for) specific bluetooth drivers for the phone.

If you get a message that drivers are missing this means that the bluetooth software you have in your computer doesn't support one or more of the bluetooth profiles in the phone. Usually this is the headset profile and A2DP that the phone uses for bluetooth headsets. Many bluetooth softwares doesn't support these profiles but they see the profiles in the phone and tries to install them.

What you can do is to check if there are any updates to the software for the computers bluetooth software that adds support for more profiles but in general the profiles you need (file transfer, tethering) are supported.

it certainly looks like the party complaining is Windows, not bluetooth software.

I made some screenshots to make things clearer (I have renamed the generic name to Xperia V bluetooth):

There may be no dire need to add proper software, drivers and icons as things seem to work despite error messages, however it gives it a very cheap low-quality feel. When connecting the phone's mass storage, then that connection has an icon from Sony but the bluetooth connection only has a stock Windows icon under "devices and printers".

Windows has a builtin bluetooth software (stack) which are used by some bluetooth adapters so in this case you are using Microsofts bluetooth stack.

With some bluetooth adapters you get another stack (Broadcomm, Bluesoleil, Toshiba etc). Those generally supports more bluetooth profiles then Microsofts.

What's really missing here is support for some bluetooth profiles in your bluetooth stack, not drivers for the phone. The driver your computer is asking for are drivers to make your bluetooth adapter support a certain bluetooth profile.

If you for example want to connect a bluetooth headset to your computer the bluetooth stack needs to support Headset profile and/or Handsfree Profile. You don't need a special driver for every headset as bluetooth profiles are standard.

Now for the phone there's really no need to have support for headset/handsfree profile unless you would want to use your computer as a headset for your phone (you can't use the phone as headset for your computer).

What are your thoughts about this forum? Let us know by doing this short survey.

Okay, this is a really simple problem and this is how to solve it. JUST READ PLEASE!!!!!!!!

I connected my phone with the computer with bluetooth and it all seemed fine except the connection was not there, I was asked for the codes to connect and I got that ERROR 28.

Your phone's USB is not turned on and that is all there is to it, and because of this the phone cant install the drivers to the computer.

I noticed this when I tried to bluetooth my laptop and phone......I plugged in the phone and computer with the usb cable

and the phone was not charging.

STEP 1: Go to settings on the phone. MAKE SURE YOUR PHONE IS CONNECTED TO THE COMPUTER WITH THE USB CABLE THAT CAME WITH THE PHONE.

STEP 2: Select the more option.

STEP 3: In this menu: Click on USB tethering to turn it on, and click on Bluetooth tethering to turn it on.

STEP 4: MAGIC HAPPENS. You don't need to download any programs from anyone else....IT IS ALL IN THE PHONE BUT YOU HAVE TO TURN ON THE SETTINGS FROM STEP 3.

Same problem. I have given up trying to find the Bluetooth drivers for Windows 7 x64. I don't think anyone has been able to fully resolve the issue. I managed to get the A2DP and bluetooth modem working, but not much else. If you're looking for a way to manage your phone remotely, I suggest looking into virtual wifi technology.
