Well, thanks for the link however am not new to this concept !! I have read many blogs and posts regarding Android RAM usage stuff.

My point is not about Task Killing or Task Manager. My point is very simple, when there are too many background process running it's using more RAM and causing my phone laggy sometimes, so i wanted to restrict my Background process.

This was working fine with ICS but i don't feel that effect with JB. If you are using Xperia S with JB. Check & let me know, otherwise let Sony Moderators answer to my question.

Thanks.

Hello,

I tried to use the same option which was available in ICS to restrict the Background Process in "Developer Options" in JB. Well, i didn't feel any difference with the RAM usage, it was always using high and infact i could see that there were lots of process running at the background.

Anybody checked this issue before ??

Developer options is for use with android sdk which enables you to push apps that you are developing onto your phone for testing before making an installable apk

i know the purpose of "Developer Option", but my quesiton is about one of the feature/option available in "Developer Option", that option named "Background Process Limit". This functionality was working seamlessly with ICS, where i would restrict my background process to 3/4 to save some RAM, but with JB, even though i restrict them to 3/4 i don't see any improvement on available RAM.

Hope you have understood my question.

What's the point of messing with that option? You aren't doing anything useful by limiting the background processes, as the free ram would be wasted anyway as processes would be terminated even if free ram was available with that option on.

Read up on how this stuff works in Android.

http://www.androidcentral.com/ram-what-it-how-its-used-and-why-you-shouldnt-care

stay away from taskillers and task managers, if you have a lot of background apps and you don't use them, simple, unistall them or disable them, but again, stay away from taskillers, task managers, antivirus, battery apps, ram apps, booster apps.

also if you use instagram or vine, and other apps alike, clear cache often

I get what u mean, but the Developer option works for me,I used to restrict BG processes in ICS as well, as it tends to lag, but JB has little to no lags whatsoever untill the phone becomes heated enough so that processor tends to underclock itself for protection, anyway, Limiting option works !!
