Well, it's always hard to determinate if these battery issues are due to faulty phone or intense usage. Check this thread for some tips:

http://talk.sonymobile.com/message/154243#154243

For the millionth time the Android system is so high in the usage stats because nothing else is using it. If nothing showed up in the usage stats the battery would last for ever and ever amen.

Turn mobile data off and WiFi off when not in use as these along with the screen munch the most power.

Look how high mine is.

I would be interested to have some support in investigation actually what application keeps the Android system awake in most of the time, for me the Android system is keeping awake the handset in 30-70% of the time. Now I'm using the latest .55 fw but no change in this behaviour. I would bet, that we could double the stnby time if this would be fixed. THNX

I face this problem in xperia SL as well.It looks more or less like software glitch for me based on my experience.I had the same problem when i purchased the phone a couple of months back and after a Sony service centre updated the software(although I had 6.1.A.2.45, which remained the same even after update and PC companion showing phone up to date),phone battery life improved tremendously..With no Wi-Fi,games, etc and only with 8-10 calls a day, battery life extended to almost 3-4 full days. Then one day, PC companion told me a new version of software is available, although there was no mention of what the software is and what version it is.I upgraded it, and battery life was back to square one again..Now,before updating, i took a backup using the backup&restore option in the phone itself and i did a restore from that after a day, and battery life, strangely came back to the same 3-4 days again. Couple of days back PC companion told me about availability of 6.1.A.2.55 (here in India) and pushing my luck a bit, i updated to 6.1.A.2.55 and I am back to square one again..Battery compleletly drains out in 8-10 hrs even if phone is not used at all.Without using Wi-Fi,Games, movies, music etc..This time, even the backup&restore option did not help..So it is pretty much evident that some bug in the software or firmware is causing this huge variation in battery life.Hope Sony checks this and provide some relief to customers as it is pretty hard to charge the battery every 8-10 hrs.No hope though as they are curiously silent on this issue and just provides some standard tips which does not help at all.

THNX

And i'm betting it would make very little difference, over night when my phone hits deep sleep the battery lasts between 2 and 3 hours per 1% drop in battery life, the behaviour was the same on the .453 and .45 ICS firmwares, this gives a potential standby of over 8 days and i'm guessing it would show the Android usage at nearly 100% if this was indeed possible.

During the night, i always use Timed Power Saver and my battery only drops 4-5% during 7-8 hours. I check which apps drain my battery and i disable them or remove from my phone the ones i do not like. Also the Screen is a battery killer, try to use not more than 30% brightness.

If Android is consuming the most of the battery, restart your phone. It will free up the system resources.

Cheers

Unfortunately, my problem is related to Android System consumption. During one day, the AS consumes similar power to 1 hour screen usage, keeping awake the handset 30-70% of the "on" time. But no clue which aplication or task is the quilty about this...I've an Xperia J, and the battery time of that is significantly better than for the S. and the awake time is also less for Android System.

I completely disagree with you MrBelter.

What you see above is something which is seen on a good day.

The phone rarely lasts for 16 hours (I don't usually let it get to 3% and charge it whenever possible).

Furthermore, the phone requires a restart at least once a day because after some point the battery drain is increased (and according to the above and to other posts in this forum) because of the Android System is misusing the battery.

So, in other words there seems to be issue with the Android System on the Xperia S device (specifically for ICS 4.0.4) which affects the battery's performance.

For example, the phone has been idle for 2 hours (and was charged after for ~30 minutes during the time a GPS software was on) and still the Android System used most of the time instead of the Phone idle:

Am I missing something?

The moment I onnected it using PC companion, it recommended me to upgrade from .45 to .55. Now, the battery

level varies 70% to 2% in 5 minutes, and even after charging for more than an hour, phone doesn't start sometimes. It's charging- discharging varies like anything and also creates the problem like - phone hanging, screen freezing and phone switching off automatically. I am not sure if there is problem with battery, or any software issue...Can anyone help?

Took my phone to an xperia service centre today..After connecting the phone, technician told me a new software update is available, and was told to leave the phone with him for update..Could not do it as i dont have another phone..When checked through PC Companion or Update Services in my laptop, both tell that the phone is upto date..Does this mean Sony Service Centres has access to a different software version which is not provided to customers publicly ? if someone from Sony reads this support forum, could you provide an insight into this ? Or did the technician

lied to me ?? Before update, my Xperia S works well and battery can last about a day, but sadly after update, my battery now suddenly drain so fast and will go flat in less than 2 hours after charged.?????

Why this thing happen? Suppose new update will give you better performance.
