Hi,

I bought Sony Xperia J few weeks back. To my surprise while trying to check the working of Front Camera I found that the image quality was very poor. While moving to a room where light was little dim, the Front camera just blacked out. I am not able to do Video Chat on Skype. Have not seen such poor VGA Front facing camera from Sony or any other brand.

Has someone out here in the forums also faced similar problem. Is there a solution which I can use to rectify this issue with the Front Camera.? Please advice...

Thanks.

the xperia J's front facing camera it is indeed VGA and its normal that if there isn't enough light the quality will suffer.

Hi Uliwooly,

Thanks for your response. I am aware of this fact that the Xperia J has a VGA front facing camera. I have compared other handsets like Sony Ericsson Ray, Samsung Omnia W and Galaxy S duos, which all have a VGA front camera at the same quality of light, but output of all the handsets except Xperia J is acceptable . The output on Xperia of very poor quality and just blacks out if the light source is far or little dim. At the same time other handsets atleast shows some output but Xperia J completely blacks out.

Are other people using Xperia J facing the same issue or is there a issue with my handset only. The software is up to date and hade been repaired on Sony Customer support suggestion. But the issue remains the same.

I have visited the Sony Service Center and they told me that there seems to be no issue with the set and Xperia J handset works like this. But having compared other handsets having same VGA [0.3 MegaPixels] camera the fact stated by Service Center people does not seems to correct.

Please suggest......

If the front camera has been checked by a authorized repair center and no trouble found, the camera is most likely working according to design. To troubleshoot further if there's something wrong with your camera I suggest that you visit a retailer to check if you can compare yours with another Xperia J.

Hi Johan,

Thanks for your reply. There seems to be definite manufacturing issue for this Sony handset as I have tried comparing some same model Xperia J handsets. All have same issue. But if I compare other Sony models like Ray and even Xperia U none seems to have this issue, their fornt camera is much better and gives are very out output in the lighted rooms during night time.

My long kept trust on the Sony quality, has now shatterede. Having spend my hard earned money on Xperia J and getting this front camera quality make me feels deeply hurt and cheated. One of the main use of this handset apart from calling was video chatting with my parents who live far away from us. I had checked the camera in the retail showroom who had number of tubelights, the front camera quality appeared to be acceptable.

But after coming back home, I found that the front camera was not working at all in the normal room light even with two tubelights. I have been trying to find solutions from last two months. I cant believe that front camera quality of different Sony Xperia handsets series can vary so much.

If the quality would have been low it might have been acceptalbe but the front camera just blacks out as we move little away from the light source. Still looking for resolution for my issue. Hope some would help me.

Hello, I just want to share my problem also regarding the front camera of my xperia ray. After buying this handset October last year, I was not impressed of the quality of the front camera but I already accepted the fact that it is just a front camera. Last week I bumped in with my colleague with the same handset (xperia ray) and tried his phone's front camera, to my surprise his front camera is clearer and brighter than mine. the only difference is, I bought mine in the Philippines and his in Indonesia. I read azee's reply that updating the handset into jellybean will solve the problem.

I have an xperia L... Overall, I do like the phone, it is nice... However, the front camera is appalling. It is so dark and grainy! I assumed it was a fault but apparently not... I cant skype or use camera apps such as snapchat. Very dissapointed because I paid for a camera phone that was supposed to be excellent and its not very good. I am upset, Sony.

Hi there, mine also having the same problem as yours. Guess this xperia J front facing camera design is not okay. When you see the VGA camera, the position is quite deeper when compared to the phone that you mentioned before. So for me its a hardware failure. So, even you update to the JB, guess won't help at all. If you want keep using your VGA front facing camera, I suggest you find a appropiate rrom with high intensity of light :-)) Couldn't find the solution better than this though
