it would be exactly the same as without the dock - all the dock is doing is holding the phone

the PC charge rate is not as high as the mains connection though

anyway i'm still waiting to get the dock from an online store.. it's not comes with the phone here.. and it's so hard to look for a store with the dock in stock..

Is it OK to use a generic one? (not genuine from sony) ?

I haven't seen any non sony dock that will be compatible with the Xperia Z, if anything it will have an usb cable so you will have to remove the micro usb flap which defeats the purpose of a dock.

strange, but anyway have a question

I have a gel type cover/case on my phone and it has the charging contacts uncovered - will the phone fit in the dock with the cover on - is it a tight fit bare, haveb't got the dock yet but will report back when I get it

If it is too tight I will modify the dock and make it fit

I just bought the DK26 and connect using a aftermarket cable of 3M in length but the phone did not charge at all though I am using the default charger which comes with the phone.

I have no issue when using the original cable and charger so not sure what is the problem?

and I assume this cable works direct into the phone

sounds like there are an extra couple of wires/connections that are sony specific for the dock and cable which could be why it doesn't work with PC USB either

as for fitting in dock with gel cover on - I might modify the cover slightly to allow it to fit rather than modify the dock

I got an Xperia Z and in general I am pleased with it. Why doesn't the "Z" charge in the dock when it's connected to a car USB charger? The dock is really handy and I want to use it my car as well. The "Z" will not charge directly connected to a USB charger in my car either!!! Does it require any specific car charger or does it not work at all, which means the phone is useless for people working on the road!? Or is my my current car USB charger too weak? How many Amps are needed?

I think I found the answer. The dock says input 1800 mA and output 1800 mA, so I probably have to buy a new car USB charger

I have decided not to modify the dock or the gel skin, I will simply remove it when I'm at home, easy enough to peel it off

No ifits 3M cable it will take ages to charge as the voltage drops with the length of the cable a standard 1m cable is good anything more than that will drop in voltage..

Sorry the DK26 does not provide full USB connection to the phone, it only connects power to the two gold pads on the side of the phone for charging.

I can live without USB debugging through DK26 since I have rooted and have ADB wireless now. However it even does not charge with my Macbook Pro USB. I must connect it to a wall charger. Why is that so?

NOTE: I have a solar panel DIY kit with 12V sealed lead acid. DK26 can charge Xperia Z well with my car charger adapter with this setup.

I found it does need the power adaptor to work. I think the computer USB + docking station does not supply enough power to drive the charging.
