I was wondering if normal headphones (without mic and controls) would work with the Xperia S.

yes they do jus try them all . i even tried cheap immitation too. but ofcourse not of them work on the xperia s. alot dont, even some good ones. but i recommend u invest in realy good earphones to maqimize your listening pleasures it may cost the same as a new low end phone but its definitely worth it. goes well to further improve your listening experiance with xperias superb sound quality. enjoy!!!

Yeah, I hava a great headphone (V moda Crossfade lp). i was just worried that I couldnt use it to listen to music with the ctia jack port.
