I have tried resetting the phone today... no result. The screen has the same issues. I can only assume that it isn't a software issue at all, but a problem with the device's display.

Hello there,

I've bought an unlocked Xperia T a couple of days ago and have also upgraded to android 4.1.2 and the latest firmware in the meantime. There are 2 things that I haven't noticed from the beginning, only just now.

1. At maximum brightness, with the light sensor off, there is a clearly visible flickering in the lower part of the screen ( held in portrait mode ) especially against white-ish backgrounds such as playstore, chrome or even the message app ( lower left corner of the keyboard ) .

Issue does not manifest with lower brightness or ambient light sensor on.

2. Again only in maximum brightness, when locking the screen there appears a blue line across the entire screen just as the background has darkened, each time on different parts of the screen and repeating the cycle.

Again, not manifested in lower brightness or sensor on.

Has anyone else encountered this issue? Is this a hardware issue and needs to be serviced?

Thank you.

Yes, unfortunately this seems to be hardware related. You should send in your phone to a service center for repair, as hardware repairs isn't something you should do by yourself.
