Thanks again for taking time over this, but I'm still struggling... I now have OI file manager (with a huge jumble of folders inside, making it very hard to 'manage' anything); but no documents at all inside the folder called 'download'. When I try to download the attachments again from an e-mail, it asks me to 'complete action using...' - & gives me the option of Office Suite or Adobe Reader (if it's a PDF), or 'Documents to go' if it's Word, but it does not show me OI as an option to open or save the file. This results in the doc being opened in one of the other Apps; but it is still not actually saved anywhere, other than in the 'recent files' folder for a short time.

'Documents to go' works perfectly with my Blackberry Playbook - all downloaded files are saved in there & are easily accessible - but on this phone again it puts them in 'recent files', which is just a temporay folder, & eventually they vanish. There seems to be NO way with any of these apps, to actually manage the files- i.e. create folders & store things in them so they can be accessed again!

I really don't understand why this has to be so complicated. I'm just looking for something where i can actually SAVE documents - not just open & view them & then they vanish - & also create folders & manage files. I just want a simple filing system where I can access my documents when I'm not connected to the internet.

App for managing/storing documents? (Word & PDF)

I am having no luck at all with Office Suite - the file path to the 'My Documents' folder on my Xperia S is wrong & I have NO idea what to put in there instead to make downloaded doc's go into that folder. It also refuses to open PDF doc's - tells me the file is damaged; but these are perfectly good PDF files that I can open everywhere else apart from in this app. I posted a thread on this & was referred to the developer - but none of their e-mail addresses work now (I got 'delivery failure' messages from all of them). Can anyone suggest another app which will allow me to download; read and manager Word & PDF doc's? Right now 'Office Suite' is useless to me. Thanks.

as soon as you download the doc file they will be stored at the Download folder, either use a file manager (Astro or OI file manager) to open them or use OfficeSuite Pro, either or will work, also on the app drawer you can see an app that says Downloads

Thank you, but I'm not sure you're looking at the Xperia S? There is no 'downloads' folder - not in Office Suite in any case, & I'm not sure where else to look for it. The 'Apps' folder only has apps in it, nothing called 'downloads'. All I want to do is to change the file path to the 'My Documents' folder so that downloads will go in there - this should not be so difficult! There is an option change the file path in 'settings', but I have no clue what to change it to.

I'm getting so tired of the amount of time I have to spend on this forum to try to fix things that should not be broken in the first place.... This is my first 'smart' phone, & it's the most UN-'smart' object I hae ever owned...!

I'm not sure where the app called Hotmail saves downloaded files but if using the phones browser or builtin email client (which works with Hotmail) your files will be stored in a folder called downloads.

As uliwooly says you could also use for example box to transfer documents to the phone.

If you're having problems opening a certian pdf-file, try using another reader like https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.adobe.reader.

Thank you to all for taking the time to assist with this. After some struggle I managed to find the downloaded files in a folder in 'OI file manager' called 'Attachments' (there is nothing in the 'downloads' folder). I don't know how to edit these folders or move files around, but it's a start that they actually seem to be saved somewhere. The other 'Office' type apps - Office Suite; Adobe; Docs to go etc that I have downloaded - do not seem able to store anything, they just open the files (& Adobe is the only one that is able to open PDF's). I will try to just use the Attachments folder from now on to access my documents.
