The signal strength is very weak compare to my daughter's Galaxy Y using the same Telco. Can the signal strength power be increase?

GSM and WCDMA uses different frequencies, the kernel is so built that even the weakest WCDMA signal is held on to, this consumes more battery. If you dont have problem using GSM only, try selecting GSM only.

Does your daughter use the same network provider?

This is not a problem, it is how many mobile phones work. And also it is not the battery itself that heats up, it is a part of the hardware which heats up, this is because more power is consumed during a weak signal to boost its signal reception this is to keep the signal as strong as it can, so you end up consuming more battery and phone over heating.

if you have weak signal in WCDMA try switching it to GSM only, but that does not guarantee full signal in GSM as it depends on your network coverage area.

I have tried switching GSM only and the signal strength is better but this does not happen to my daughter's Galaxy Y.
