Changing default text/email notification and alarm tones

Hi there,

I am new to this forum, having owned the Experia Z for less than a week. So far so good!

Can anyone tell me if it is possible to select tones other than the pre-installed ones for email, text messgageing and the alarm clock?

I have some cool tones form my old Atrix which i would like to use on my new phone.

You can put audio files in the "Notifications" folder on your phone, and they will show up when you pull up the list of choices!

I've just done it and it seems to work.

can you tell me if the alarm tones can be changed? I can't find them on my phone.:smileyconfused:

I do believe you can create a folder named "Alarms" and put the audio files you wish to use in there.

do you know here the alarm tones are stored on the xperia z, as I could just put my tones there?

Try making the folder in the "audio" folder in your "media" folder. If you have that!

Hmm... It works for me. The ones I put in the folder "alarms" folder appear at the bottom of the alarm sound picker. If not you can always click the note symbol in the upper right corner and pick a song file.

nope. its not happening for me. my tones are not appearing there.

I don't have a note symbol in my Alarms settings either. very strange.

Am I looking in the wrong place?:smileyconfused:

you probably have to reboot for changes to take effect - not sure

Android weakness - why can't we just have one folder for all tones - ringtones

Thanks for doing this.

I have been through the menus as you suggested but my third screen is called "Ringtones", not Sound picker, and so I don't have the note symbol you ringed in red. I wonder why this is?

Is there anything else you can recommend?

I've just had the latest android update yesterday and the screenshots you posted don't correspond with those on my phone.

Can you suggest anything else?

Hmm... sorry, I don't know what to tell you then, if we have different versions of the firmware and all... That's quite odd though.

Try putting your files in the folder media\audio\alarms and see if they show up.

Also you need to disable "Style settings" under "Advanced alarm settings" when you add/edit an alarm.

just create folders in the root directory of the phone SD (not ext sd)

Notifications

Alarms

Ringtones

get it working with that then experiemnt with your ext SD card

I have looked on file commander and i can't see anything called root?

the root folder is the top folder on your sd card or external sd card - all the folders are created from this

before you start creating folders you might want to check your internal storage and see if these folders exist already - most likely they do, open file commander select internal storage and look - if so just copy what files you want to use as ringtones alarms etc to the 3x folders and you're done - if they are not there (which is unlikely) then do the following

open file comander - select internal storage - then "new" (bottom left tab) folder - name it alarms -

do the same for ringtones and notifications - this will work
