I downloaded a compass app and the needle just rotate with the phone. I believe it was caused when I placed my phone near a magnet (I was using the metal detector option in a compass app) and I believe it damaged the internal compass.</P><P></P><P> NOTE: Compasses work by detecting the worlds magnetic field.
