Adapt to lighting conditions - under Brightness - never worked

Team - There is an option under Brightness - " Adapt to lighting conditions" - ,

after enabling that option , i dont see the screen brightness changes as per lightning conditions

....any help on how to resolve ...much apperciated

mine is a new phone ... ...

Please try running an update/repair to potentially resolve this:

1. Before you start you have to download the PC Companion software from http://www.sonymobile.com/gb/tools/pc-companion/

and install it on your PC.

2. Once installed on your PC, double-click the PC Companion icon on your desktop to start the update.

Note! For some models you will be prompted to do a backup prior to the update and then restore.

3. Install and open PC Companion then select Support Zone.

4. Phone Software Update.

5. Start.

6. Repair Phone

7. Continue

8. Accept data removal

9. Next

10. Wait for prepare

11. Select Phone

12. Follow the connection steps

Place you hand over the top of the screen and let me know if there is any change.

It was just changing values from one to two and Vice Versa. and i do not get it.

It’s not a fix, but it does tell me if the sensor itself is working. If the values do not change the sensor is basically broken.

Hi Sir Sam,

If it's a test, without me doing anything, why does the value change back and forth (1 to 2)?

P.S.

After retrying the test, covering and uncovering the phone. The test worked.

Ambient sensor shows a larger number around Value 25-30.

After covering the screen, the value shows value around 1-5.

It does work

i see values changes from 1 ~ 2 in my room

when i took it outside , it increased to 500 ~ 800..it also touched 1000..at some times

so the Sensor works as per your response ..

back to home screen or during normal use, either i use the phone in a mid-dark OR bright-light place or under sunlight places , I dont see GO screen brighness varies ..it just same .. !!

In mid-dark conditions the phone screen brightness should come down ,,,, under sunlight conditions screen brightness should increase automatically ...but it never happens ...i have to change the brightness manually ...

That is odd as this implies it is more of a software issue as opposed to hardware in which case the repair earlier should have resolved it. Given this I can only advise that you return the phone so that it may assessed by an authorised repair agent.

I've also noticed that the display brightness doesn't respond to external light levels.

I tried the test in the service menu and the values do indeed change from 1-2 indoors to 500+ in daylight.

However, I downloaded a couple of test apps (Elixir2 & "Android Sensor Box") and they both say "Light sensor not available on this device". The Apps work fine on my Nexus 7, so I guess the Android o/s isn't making the sensor available to the Apps.

I'm running GB (6.0.B.3.184), I don't want to 'upgrade' to ICS, so I guess I'll have to live with it.

it pop up this device does not support the function ?why? i am using Z2 . and i am having the same problem
