Can you configure the walkman app to ignore all the rubbish ringtones and things on my phone.

I dont want to listen to all the message tones through the app, just my music.

This was never an issue with my old Xperia Play.

I just want it to play music on the SD card where I can organise the music.

I've had to download a seperate app which only looks at the SD card which goes against one of Sony's biggest benefits (WALKMAN).

Well, since ringtones often are in mp3-format it would not be possible to filter out the ringtones from you music. I would advise you to create playlists with your music or choose the artist/album you want to listen to.

Is it not possible to listen by choosing a specific folder? As I used ot be able to do on the old phone and am able to do with the other app?

Sometimes you just want to randomnly play though all your music which is normally stored in the Music folder. Creating a playlist to add several hundred tracks would take ages.

No, it's not possible. The phone searches trough all folders for mp3 files and puts them all into the music player library. If you want this function you unfortunately have to use another music player.

well in my Arc S memory card there was a 'ringtones' folder and any mp3 stored in there were not coming up on the music/walkman app.

Use the same card on the T with ringtones there and same behaviour. Those files dont get picked up.

I had this problem too, and found it very irritating. Luckily after trawling the internet I have found a solution.

NB: I can't be held accountable for anything that goes wrong, all I know is the below worked for me!

Put all your media that you don't want in your walkman app (or the gallery etc) - mine is on my Ext card in a folder called NO MEDIA. I have my Xmas songs, podcasts and standup comedy albums in there so that they're not included when I shuffle all.

Once you have transferred all your media in this folder, download an app called "studioKUMA .nomedia manager" from the play store. Using this app tick the folder with the unwanted media in it (and any subfolders). This puts a .nomedia file in the folder that prevents the phone scanning it.

When thats all done, close all the running apps in the quick menu. Then go to settings > apps > all and on each app that would have previously included your media ie WALKMAN or ALBUM do this: Clear Cache > Clear Data > Force close. Then find a running app called Media Storage and do the same.

Then turn your phone off and wait for a minute before turning back on. When you have turned your phone back on, open up the WALKMAN app (or album etc). It will initially look like you have no media at all, but wait for about 10 minutes. Your phone is scanning for your media and will add it eventually. Mine took about 15 minutes before it was fully updated. I was initially worried but then it was fine and now its exactly as I want it and can click shuffle all and not have to skip everytime a podcast comes on. When you add new ringtones etc, you might have to redo the above or make sure you put them in a folder with a .nomedia file.

When I want to listen to a podcast or any use any other file, I just use another player such as VLC and manually select the file.

Job done.

Hey,

This is rubbish!
You should be able to keep your music collection where ever you want to and pin point it from any application you use to play it. As long as Walkman can't help out with that i simply don't use it.

The thing is that if you use the option to mark some folder as .nomedia all the files in that folder is also gone from the phone, not only the Walkman application. So any file used as ringtone will not be found again untill you remove the .nomedia file.

Insteda of Walkman i use Player Pro which is a very competent player and let's you point out where to look for music.

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tbig.playerpro&hl=sv

I have always kept my Ringtones/Notifications in their respective folders on the memory and have never had them appear in the Walkman app. Does the .nomedia option actually work? Wouldnt the .nomdeia option hide the files from being used as Ringtones/Notifications?

Unbelievable that you cannot select the folder and instead it adds all mp3. Must be a sensible way around this. Preferably Sony could just create decent apps which leave control with the user. Maybe that is too much to ask.
