there is an array of tiny dots visible on my new xperia u screen. my dealer says its because the phone uses the bravia engine. is it right or is it a dislay problem

Yes every xperia u has that. It is the part of the digitiliser ie the touch screen. No need to worry its nnot a screen problem. Just buy a screen protector or use the one in the XPU box. and you will be fine.
