Xperia U Issues

Hi all, I wondered if you could help me please. I have a Xperia U which I bought last week, and decided to upgrade it straight away to the latest version of Android - ICS.

I have no comparison to Gingerbread, so I don't know if these are issues with the phone or software, but wondered if someone could shed some light please?

1) The 'quick launch' button for the camera on the side of the phone - can't get it to launch the camera whatsoever. Also, when I go into the menu and select this button to be used for taking a photo, when I press it, it just lights up the flash, it won't take a photo? Is this something I'm doing wrong, or is it a fault?

2) When you press the button ons creen to take a photo, it takes ages to take a photo. It spends about 5 seconds focusing. I want it to just take a photo within a second or two, any ideas?

3) The 'RAM' (memory) when checking int he settings is awfully low, it says it has about 40mb remaining? I have started using an app killer which takes me back up to around 180mb free, but an hour later it's back to 40mb. Any ideas?

1. Open Camera > Press Options > Swipe to the second screen > Quick Launch > Launch and Capture.

2. If you have a rooted phone than install Camera Mod 3.0. If not, wait for the next update. Hopefully its gonna fix this issue.

3. ICS uses too much of RAM but RAM Management seems to be a lot better as well. How to increase RAM --> http://talk.sonymobile.com/thread/44278

Thanks, however the answer to the first question I've already tried, again button doesn't do anything when the screen is locked, and doesn't take a photo when pressed.

I haven't got a rooted phone, however I presume it's a known issue then?

It seems like I made a big mistake upgrading to ICS! Is there any official way I can revert back to what the phone was on at factory settings?

ive read somewhere here that the quick lunch of the camera only works when your screen lock is set to slide. and on your number 2 concern, i think its because of the camera cant focus properly on what you are capturing, its happening to me too, try to set the focus mode to infinity, that solves my problem with the focusing of the camera. on the ram issue, maybe you just have to stop all the apps that is running on your phone, my phones free ram is about 140-160 most of the time, my running apps is settings, usbotg and xperia keyboard only, also uninstall apps that is not really helpful but eats your ram. i hope this would help you

Thanks Feratus, it seems to have speeded the camera up a bit. Will have to try the screen lock thing, maybe it's because I have the pattern password on.

As for the actual button on the side of the phone, this still doesn't allow me to use it to take a photo. Any idea why?

The best official way revert back to Gingerbread and factory settings is to take the phone to warranty service. At least here in Finland they say one can get phone downgreaded back to factory settings at warranty service once for free. Just make sure yo ubackup the files you have on your phone before you revert.

I did not even had to send my phone to the shop where I bought it. I just went to local Sony warranty shop here in Tampere Finland, and they did it for me within one day.

thats nice to know :smileygrin: glad to help a bit. for the camera button on the side of the phone, are you pressing it hard? you must press it hard to capture a photo, if you press it softly the camera will focus only so you must press it harder for it to capture an image, im sorry i dont know if my explanation is clear, when i bought my phone, at first i thought that the camera button is not working too, but the sales lady said that it must be press harder, its like the button will be pressed twice, the soft press is for focusing and the harder press will make it capture the image. :smileygrin:

Yeah! Feratus is right, U gonna be harder at the press of the button.

If U intend to continue with the ICS then U probably need to do the following to free up RAM

1) switch off the phone and remove the sim.

2) turn on the phone and reset factory settings (no need to delete data though)

3) let the phone restart and then turn it off

4) insert sim and start the phone

5) check free RAM ( shud be ~150 MB)

and u r done............this is the problem for ALL android phones after upgrading.

Hi,

Under Accounts & Sync I have set all my accounts the Auto-sync status to Off. But the auto sync turns on autmatically after 15 to 20 minutes. I have the screen shots if needed.

Thanks guys, camera button now works!

I don't think I need to reset the phone though, not sure how that would make a worth while difference?
