Sony Ericsson Cedar j108a problem with software

Good Morning,

I have a problem with my phone. I turned it off on november 15th, and I couldn´t turn it on again. When I tried to turn it on, the screen was white for 5 sec, and went black again; the same happened when I connected the charger. I asked to a man who repairs phones and he said that it was a software problem,which I caused(supposedly), which would cost about 25$ to be replaced. He said that I couldn´t reclaim the warranty because I caused that.

I remember that I made an actualization of the software directly by the phone days before(which could, perhaps be the responsible of the problem).

I didn´t realized in that moment that the Sony PC companion had a support zone to make an actualization to the software. Then I used this, and it appeared that I would repair the phone by myself. But when the phone turned on(for the first time in a long time) to install the new software, it remained on like 30secs and it went off again, leaving the installation incomplete.

I need to know if what that man was going to make to the phone truly worth it the money; or if I may do something else to the cedar in order to repair it by myself. Or maybe if I could reclaim the warranty in case that the software actualization is the maker of this.

You can do the software update by yourself

For this, You can opt Update service from Sony!

1. Download the update service from sony website.

website: http://www.sonymobile.com/global-en/tools/update-service/

software link: http://emma.extranet.sonyericsson.com/update_service_setup

2. Install the application on your PC.

3. Follow the instructions that will appear when you open that application!

For this, you should have a data cable and charge your phone to atleast 50%.

AFter making this, I leaved the phone charging and it turned on by itself in a while later.The phone is now functioning well.

But now I need to know what exactly caused the problem. Y mean that, the man that repairs phones said that I probably had the phone with virus, causing the software problem. But I did not remember downloading something that could contain virus. I only remember that I made an actualization days before, directly by the phone. It said that the phone "got the last software avaiable" or something like that.

After that, I didn´t made anything else to the cedar.

Now, could the begginer of the problem would have been the software actualization directly from phone? I believe that the software that the cedar downloaded contained a problem, but I don´t know. AS I said, I didn´t did anything to the phone or downloaded programs or info the days before I got the problem, except the actualization I told you.

So thats it! Now you yourself did that thing! you saved $25!!

Yeah..I guess it is so. You might have had lots n lots in your phone memory! More the files, more time the phone takes to switch on! (I tried to switch on the phone with some 17K messages in inbox.:smileygrin: and boof it didnt switch on till i flashed my phone!!) Because of this, it restarts automatically!

Hereafter Carefully download the files! check the comments and ratings(of the file to be downloaded) before you download! activate your F-secure antivirus on your mobile!!

My cedar also in the same condition.. Showing the white back screen for 5 seconds n getting off.. In this case, how can i plug it to my PC n make it updated..pls help me.. Its not getting on if i connect it with data cable. Pls tell me a solution..please.

I had same issue and I have follow instruction to updated the software & it updated software successfully.
But after completing software update my phone didn't start..

I am also have same problem....when i conects my mobile to computer via usb cable..takes too much time to connect.and when update is going on...suddenly shows an error....how can i update my phone correctly?
