I have a problem with the encoding of SMS messages. When I receive a message written in cyrillic it shows only some strange symbols and I cannot read it.

I had a similar situation opening a text file (also written in cyrilics), but the OfficeSuite had an option to set the encoding (uniceode, windows-1251, etc.) and this fixed it.

Is there any way to set the encoding of the phone’s Messaging application?

P.S. I already wrote to the support team in my country but they couldn’t help me so far. Their suggestion was to set the Xperia keyboard as default and to set its Writing languages correctly. It did not solve it.

It's unfortunately not possible to do this in the default SMS application. I suggest that you check on Google play store for other SMS applications that may support this.
